June 21st Weekly Word

Thank You Picnic Today @6pm

for Steeple Workers

If you haven't had a chance to stop in and take a look at the steeple repair, please do. They will be wrapping up soon.

As a thank you for their hard work, we are planning a thank you picnic starting at 6:00pm on Wednesday, June 21st and would like everyone to join us.

We will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and baked beans. If you can bring a dish that would be great. If not, just come and be part of the celebration.

These are the two brave souls who are working very hard to make our steeple shine!

Gordon (L) and Michael (R). To learn more about their work, click here.

UCC Strengthen the Church Special Offering

June 14th-27th

For the next two weeks, we will be collecting a special offering for the UCC Strengthen the Church initiative.

Strengthen the Church is an opportunity for your gifts to sustain not just our growing, renewing and birthing churches, but also to ensure that the holy ground they create is where extravagant welcome of our beloved Jesus is embodied for all.

The funds raised support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations.

Enjoy this short video from the UCC about our mission. Thank you for your generosity!

Pastor Kathy Mid-Summer Schedule

Pastor Kathy will be on vacation from June 27 - July 4th.

Pastoral coverage will be provided by Rev. Linda Lea Snyder.

Pastor Kathy will be taking two weeks of renewal leave from July 5-18. The leadership of the UCC encouraged all churches to grant their pastors two weeks renewal leave this year, given the ongoing challenges of pastoring, and HCC leadership, encouraged by our Staff Relations Group, agreed. The Staff Relations Group will explain the renewal leave more fully in next week's Weekly Word.

Bible Study Resumes June 28th

Bible study will begin again next Wednesday, June 28th at 9:30am in the Youth Room upstairs from the social hall.

All are welcome!

A Word from Peace & Justice

In May Kari wrote a piece about the UCC Climate Cards of Hope. Children from our churches illustrated them and the conference offered them at no charge to the local congregations. We ordered some and they have arrived.

The Peace and Justice Team, as part of our Environmental Justice focus, will have the cards available for members of our church community to take home and send to elected officials requesting that they keep the wonder and beauty of our natural world in mind when making policy.

There are many concerns from water resources to preserving natural wild spaces to pollution - more than we can name here. Think of one that you feel strongly about and write a representative expressing your concern as a person of faith.

The cards will be laid out at Coffee Hour along with contact information for our local, state, and federal representatives.

Stepping Stones

Steeple Fund Donation

A very special "thank you" to

Stepping Stones School

for their amazing donation of $500

toward our steeple restoration!

Scam Emails & Texts

Emails and Texts are often sent, saying they are from Pastor Kathy or another staff member. She (or the HCC staff) will never send out a generic email/text--she'll address it to your name. She will never ask you for money/gift cards over email nor via a text.

Also, any email from Pastor Kathy will always have her signature line on the bottom with her phone number/address.

If in doubt, please contact the church office or Pastor Kathy.

Blankets for Project Linus

For those of you who have been busy sewing, quilting, knitting, or crocheting, we have an new opportunity to donate those handmade items!

We located a national organization that has local chapters called Project Linus (https://www.facebook.com/projectlinussouthwestnewhampshire/). This organization's mission is "to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans". Blankets are given to children in need through NH.

*We welcome all styles of blankets made in child-friendly colors/prints.
*Crocheted, knitted, quilted (100% cotton or flannel), fleece….you don’t have to be an expert!
*Blankets must be NEW, HANDMADE and WASHABLE.
*Fabric blankets can be quilted by machine, hand or tied. If you are tying the blanket make sure the ends are trimmed to 1” and the knots are secure.
*Please do not add any embellishments to the blankets such as buttons that could be swallowed by a child.
*If you are using a no-sew fleece pattern, please be sure to trim off both selvages FIRST. Not sure what selvages are? Ask the clerk who is cutting your fleece to please show you, they’re those odd looking edges at the top and bottom of the piece you have, sort of raggy looking.
*We accept all sizes of blankets. We donate to children, infants through teen years, so any size is appropriate. Baby blankets are typically 36”X36” or 36”X42”, toddler-pre-teen are typically about 40”X60”, and teen blankets are at least 60"X72".

Blankets can be dropped off in the entry way of Hadley Hall.

Thank you for your support of this project!
