Player Spotlight - Karen Kubik

I retired from Northside Hospital Gwinnett and Duluth as Director of Radiology Services, a little over a year ago. In the time before retirement my husband Chris and I knew we wanted to downsize from our home in the Buford/Hamilton Mill area. The decision was between the beach - OBX and staying here as we had children in both places. OBX is more desolate in the winters and this one-time Brooklyn New York girl likes to be around friends and loves to shop. Once we found Cresswind we were sold. Great lifestyles and 2 out 4 grandchildren living close by.

Nine months ago. I had a total knee replacement. Pickleball has helped with my progress, as I worked on strengthening muscles and range of motion. You can say pickleball is part of my therapy plan, along with the E-Gym. I can’t say enough about the social aspect of the sport. Everyone has been so supportive and positive, helping me to recover and improve my game. There is life and pickleball after knee surgery and Cresswind Twin Lakes is the best place to live it!

Chiropractic and Pickle Ball

* Preventing Injuries *

While pickleball is considered a low-impact sport, it doesn’t come without risk of injury. As with any sport that has you using your entire body, you can still get hurt if you don’t stretch correctly or get lost in a play and happen to trip and fall.

Some common injuries related to pickleball include

  • Knee injuries from rapid stopping, starting, and pivoting
  • Wrist injuries from the frequent turning of the paddle as well as falling with the arm outstretched
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel bruising from hard surfaces
  • Blisters if you use improper footwear
  • Sprains and strains in the lower and upper body-from lunging, twisting, reaching for the ball, and quick body movements
