Greetings from the Stricklands in Oregon! We recently yurt camped down in Coos Bay at Sunset Bay State Park. We did a 4 mile hike along the ridgeline of some very impressive sand dunes near Reedsport. So much fun! The dog's faces say it all!
Here's the latest news: I'm working on a new piano show with my daughter, Elizabeth which we'll debut in Redmond OR on Nov. 15, 2015. We'll be doing some 4-hands one piano arrangements of mine as well as Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue for 4 hands, one piano. Also Elizabeth will be featured doing some Chopin, Flight of the Bumble Bee, a lovely, inventive classical arrangement of My Favorite Things and others. And I'll feature some new compositions including one for my dog Bo! Hope you can make it!
I love featuring local young artists in my concerts. 13 year old Brylan was a blast to work with. See the featured young artist video in this newsletter.
And from the young to the not so young, we had our next door neighbor, 106 year old Rose Randolph join us for a wonderful string quartet concert by the Evergreen String Quartet whom we hosted in our home recently. Here she is with the quartet!
I'll be in New York City Sept 7-14 for the US Open Tennis tournament. Kristi got me tickets for my birthday a while back. I'm excited! By the way, anyone out there who would like to host me for a piano concert during that time while I'm in the area, please contact us. It can be in a home, church, performing arts venue, etc.
We have a new Australian Shepard puppy named Ava Rose. She's great! 7 months old now. This dog is smart, strong and has a must-win personality! But very sweet! She's the black colored dog in the bunch.
This next weekend on August 1st at 6pm here in McMinnville OR, I'll be doing a feature piano performance for Homeward Bound, a local no-kill shelter for animals. And my dog, Bo will debut his new song, 'Mister Bo'. Please come and support the cause! Would love to see you there!
Hope everyone is doing well. We've had a sunny dry last 3 months here in the Northwest- so unusual. Take care and we'll talk soon!
Much Love,
Mike, Kristi, Elizabeth, Bo, and Ava Rose
