Sammy

Pets of the Homeless received a call from a homeless veteran gentleman who li v es o n the streets of San Diego, CA with his 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Sammy.  He was concerned because Sammy was vomiting blood and might have an ea r infection. We approved an emergency examination.

After the examination, it was determined that Sammy was very sick and needed to be hospitalized.  Sammy had pn eumonia.  A concern was that Sammy may have blood in his lungs.

Pets of the Homeless assisted with the maximum  financial assistance available which included hospitaliz ation, iv fluids, oxygen cage, antibiotics, blood work, x-rays, urinalysis, daily hospital nursing care and doctor visits, and ear medications.  Sammy is doing much better!

What Does a Pets of the Homeless Volunteer Recruiter do?
What is a Donation Site?
Volunteer Recruiters for Pets of the Homeless actively recruit Donation Sites in their communities.  Donation Sites are businesses like groomers, veterinarians, florists, etc. that you may know or frequently do business with and agree to accept pet food donations from the public. Donation Sites then take the donations to homeless shelters and/or food banks.  Volunteers will sometimes help the Donation Site transport the donations to the shelters and also report to Pets of the Homeless the amounts of pet food that is donated and distributed to the homeless with pets.  Sometimes our volunteers will take it to the streets and spread the word about our free programs to the homeless.  Others also help at Pets of the Homeless sponsored wellness clinics.

Did you know?  Since 2008, Pets of the Homeless Donation Sites have reported they have received and distributed over 500.86  tons of pet food and supplies.  That's over 1 million pounds of pet food!  Help us feed more pets of the homeless; let's double this!  You can help, too!  Become a Volunteer Recruiter as an individual or a Donation Site as a business, and give back to your local community!  All pet
food and supplies donated at donation sites stay in your community and are distributed to local homeless shelters, food pantries and/or soup kitchens where the homeless get meals.  Those with their beloved pets will also be invited for a meal, too!  Know of a homeless shelter in your area that might want to offer pet food, too?  Become a Volunteer and talk to them about Pets of the Homeless' mission.  We'll send you the necessary materials to get started.  No pet should go hungry.

Claudia Swing of Sequim, WA with her two dogs, Bailey and Charlie.  Thank you for your recurring monthly donations since April 2016.
You allow us to continue with our mission!

"Bailey and Charlie are my two rescues that I love dearly.  I have been rescuing and saving dogs since I was in high school.  I have always kept my car stocked with food, leashes, water, first aid items, towels and everything to rescue them.   These animals mean so much to those who are homeless, they provide love, comfort and companionship.   These dogs mean the world to them and I am glad I can help in my small way....."
