Meet Spazz
Pets of the Homeless received a call from a homeless woman who called for her friend.  They live in an encampment in the desert in Tucson, AZ.  The previous night, Spazz was protecting the camp and was gored by a javelina.  Javelinas are a medium sized mammal, similar to a wild pig and they have tusks.  Spazz had puncture wounds in his abdomen area and on his side.  The wounds had bled a lot the previous evening, and Spazz was in pain.  We approved an emergency examination.

During the exam, the veterinarian called Pets of the Homeless' Case Manager to discuss treatment.  The vet recommended sedation, and to probe the puncture wounds to check if they penetrated the abdomen, as well as clipping, cleaning, and stitching the wounds,  antibiotics and pain medications.  There were no penetrations in Spazz' abdomen.  We assisted with the above treatment as well as an e-collar.

Spazz' friend sent us a note, "We both thank you greatly and appreciate all you do for the animals in need. God bless you all and please never stop doing a blessed job."

Spazz had his sutures removed, and has developed a bit of a fluid build-up and is being seen for follow up care.

Pets of the Homeless Participates
in the Nevada Day Parade
Thanks to Michael Hohl Motor Company
Pets of the Homeless participated in the 79th Annual Nevada Day Parade, Saturday, October 28th in downtown Carson City, the capital of Nevada.  All of this wouldn't have been possible without the kindness of Michael Hohl Motor Company who offered their Denali Duramax pick up truck overflowing with donations of pet food!  Michael Hohl Motor Company, of Carson City, NV held a pet food drive for the entire month of October and then allowed Pets of the Homeless volunteer, Ray Frederick to drive the truck as our float in the parade!
Staff, family and volunteers followed along behind the pick up truck with their dogs dressed up in Halloween costumes!  Candy was handed out to children along the parade route.

Pet food donations were tallied and a huge thank you and congratulations goes out to Michael Hohl Motor Company for collecting over 2,460 pounds of donated pet food!  A well deserved thank you also goes out to the Reno Corvette Club for all of your donations!
