Buddy receives emergency veterinary care

Pets of the Homeless received a  call from a homeless man living in a tent on a riverbed in Los Angeles with his dog, Buddy.  Buddy,  a one-year-old neutered male Pit Bull Labrador mix,  had been in a ruckus with another dog seven days prior and had a severe laceration which had become infected.  We approved an examination with a local veterinarian.

After the examination it was determined that Buddy had a very deep 5"x9" laceration that would need surgery to repair.  Thanks to our donors, Pets of the Homeless' Case Manager approved the surgery which included anesthesia, iv catheter, laceration repair, laser therapy, e-collar, medications and we had his vaccinations updated.

at Project Homeless Connect

Dr. Ford and five staff members of Galena Veterinar y Hospital recently volunteered their time and provided well checks, vaccinations a nd nail trims for 65 pets at the Project Homeless Connect in downtown Reno, NV.

Pets of the Homeless has sponsored this Wellness Clinic since 2011.

In addition to wellness checks, pet food, pet supplies and pet coats were  distributed. A number of spay/neuter vouchers were also offered.   A few pets were ill and referred to our Emergency Veterinary care program and treated for ear infections and dental extractions.

In addition to Dr. Ford and his staff, over ten Pets of the Homeless staff and member volunteers helped with various responsibilities.  These included: checking in pet guardians and their pets, passing along pet education, completing rabies certificates, photographing pets and veterinary staff, distributing pet supplies and providing pet-sitting while their guardians utilized the additional services available at the Project Homeless Connect such as haircuts with barbers, medical, dental, employment opportunity assistance, legal, aid, etc.

We offer our sincere thanks to Dr. Ford, his staff, and the many volunteers who helped.  Without you, this event would not be a success!
