Snickers

Pets of the Homeless received a call from a homeless woman who lives in her car in San Diego, CA with her 6-year-old female Chihuahua, Snickers, who had a swollen cheek.  Pets of the Homeless approved an examination.

After the exam, it was determined that Snickers had an abscessed tooth and needed an extraction.   Pets of the Homeless assisted with vaccines, antibiotics, pain medications, and flea preventative to begin, as well as an approval for pre-surgery blood work at a later date.  Snickers had her blood work performed as well as the extraction.  This included pre-anesthetic examination, medications, anesthesia induction, anesthesia maintenance and monitoring, surgical tooth extraction, recovery monitoring, iv fluids, hospitalization, patient care and antibiotics.

Pets of the Homeless recently supplied free pet sleeping crates  to the Carson City, NV nightly warming shelter for the homeless with pets.

Carson City, NV started a program that is completely run by volunteers and allows the homeless and th ei r pets to have a warm place to sleep.  Five churches in Carson City will each rotate and open their doors for one month throughout the winter.  The Salvation Army and F.I.S.H. are also volunteering with a transportation service to the churches.

The homeless will have access to a cot, blankets, hot water, and decaf coffee, as well as a sleeping crate for their pet provided by Pets of the Homeless.

The shelters will be open nightly through March 31st.   Read the full article here:   Carson Now: Carson City Volunteers Make Bold Move, provide nightly warming shelter for the Homeless

Pet sleeping crates are provided by Pets of the Homeless at no cost to shelters who allow pets to be with their owners.  The sleeping crate then becomes the property of the shelter.  Read more about our program here:   Pets of the Homeless Sleeping Crate Program

Our mission:  Feeding Pets of the Homeless believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human/animal bond which is very important in the lives of many homeless. They find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. Our task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
