Meet Einstein

Pets of the Homeless received a call from a homeless couple living in a tent with their dog Einstein in San Diego, CA.  Einstein's symptoms included vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and he was lethargic and losing weight.  We approved an exam for Einstein to be seen by a local veterinarian.

After the examination was completed it was recommended to do x-rays and blood work to determine what was making him so sick.  We approved the recommended diagnostics.  The x-rays showed that Einstein had a luxated patella (occurs when the knee cap moves out of its natural position) and would need surgery.  We assisted with the maximum allowable benefit for this pet to perform the diagnostics and provide medications. We provided additional resources to help with the costs of Einstein's surgery.

Otis, Max, Summer & Phoebe

Pets of the Homeless received a call from a homeless man who lives in the park with his four Chinese Pugs, Otis, Max, Summer and Phoebe in San Diego, CA.  All four dogs had ear infections and nails so long that it impeded their walking.   We approved examinations for his dogs.

Upon examination, it was found that Otis who was 15 years old had infections in both of his ears and his eyes as well as on his skin.  We approved blood work and an ear cytology.

Max, who is 14, and Summer who is 8, both had exams which showed they needed medication to help treat the ear infections, an ear cleaning and a nail trimming.  We assisted with this treatment for Max and Summer.

Phoebe who is also 8, had an exam that showed she had a fractured tooth that had become abscessed.  She needed immediate dental surgery.  We provided the financial assistance to help with this treatment as well as the medication for her ears and a nail trimming.

We later learned that Otis fell very ill and his owner  made the difficult decision to have him euthanized.  Run with the angels Otis!

Testimonials Help us Feel the Love this Valentine's Day
We are honored to share some of the amazing testimonials that Pets of the Homeless received recently.

"All I can say is God bless each and every one who is part of this organization.  It's people like them and the love and compassion that these homeless have for their fur babies that keeps restoring my faith in humanity." -  Mercedes J.

"Thank you for helping the homeless and their pets...Looking at these people and knowing they aren't worthless as their pets will attest to, should inspire people to reexamine the homeless. No.Human.Being.Is.Worthless.  I love these animals, because they see us as we can not sometimes see our fellow human beings...Everyone is fighting a battle...My brother was homeless for 34 years due to severe mental illness and being frightened and scared...He is no longer, thanks to God.  My brother is now allowing me to help him...Please don't judge the homeless and help them any way you can, including their pets, that may be the only love they ever get...Bless you!! Feeding Pets of the Homeless!!  - Angela S.

"Such a wonderful, compassionate organization.  Love to see the love and concern these homeless people have for their pets.  Makes my heart feel good."  - Pamela B.

PET AGE - Pets of the Homeless Seeks Veterinarians to Assist with Emergency Veterinary Care
Pets of the Homeless is looking to expand its national network of veterinarians to provide emergency veterinary care.
Pets of the Homeless relies on volunteers, social workers and veterinarians to refer the homeless and their pets to the nonprofit for verification. The organization says it needs more volunteer veterinarians and assistants to administer veterinary care to pets of the homeless.
