Papi gets much needed Veterinary Care
Papi's story was shared on Fix It Long Beach social media:  " Papi is a sweet Pomeranian from Long Beach who has had a very rough few months. He was hit by a car four months ago, at which time his owner did the unthinkable-surrendered him to a local homeless man, in his injured condition! Unimaginable! Instead of having him treated for his injuries,
Papi after his bath and shave!
Papi was pretty much left to suffer in the care of another person who can barely get by himself, but still loved and tried his best to care for Papi; even applying homemade ointments on his injured leg in an attempt to have him heal.   For the past months, this little fellow has been getting by with his new owner, hobbling about on the streets with his right maimed leg useless; he has now learned to run and walk on his remaining 3 functioning legs."

An advocate for Papi's homeless guardian called Pets of the Homeless to apply for emergency veterinary care assistance.  Papi needed an amputation surgery.

Pets of the Homeless assisted with the maximum allowable benefit for Papi's amputation surgery which included: anesthesia, pain injections, hospitalization, iv fluids, monitoring, operating room, drain placement, antibiotics, x-rays, bandaging and an e-collar.

Thank you to our generous donors for allowing us to help Papi get the veterinary care he deserves!  Here's a photo of Papi after his surgery.

interviews Founder, Genevieve Frederick

When Genevieve Frederick returned from a visit to New York City in 2006, the images of homeless individuals living on the street with their pets would not leave her mind. She wondered how they found enough to eat.

At her home in Nevada, Genevieve called food banks that already served the homeless. She asked them if she could provide donated dog and cat food, and if they would then make it available to their clients. They answered with a resounding, "Yes!"  That was the beginning of a long journey to start a non-profit and to grow it to become the only national organization of its kind.
