Summer is upon us and time is flying by. As we gear up for the fall, we celebrate the Class of 2019 and welcome the Class of 2023 to campus!

In this edition, we share with you departmental news, introduce you to new department chairs and recap our spring events and awards. It's an exciting time to be an HHP Gator and we always enjoy sharing with you the latest and greatest news.

DEPARTMENT NEWS & UPDATES
New school year brings two new departments, new department chairs

With the new school year on the horizon, HHP has several important updates and exciting news to share. Chief among the news is the formation of two new departments – the Department of Sport Management and the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management.

MEET THE NEW CHAIR OF APPLIED PHYSIOLOGY & KINESIOLOGY
David Vaillancourt moves into the role of department chair

David Vaillancourt, Ph.D., joined UF and APK in 2011. In addition to the role of professor, he served as director of the Center for Exercise Science and vice-chair for the department .

MEET THE NEW CHAIR OF HEALTH EDUCATION & BEHAVIOR
Mildred Maldonado-Molina joins HHP as the new department chair

Mildred Maldonado-Molina, Ph.D., comes to HHP from the Department of Health Outcomes & Biomedical Informatics at the UF College of Medicine where she was Associate Professor and director of the Family Data Center.

CONGRATS, HHP GATOR GRADS!
HHP celebrates one Ph.D., 83 master's and 432 bachelor's degree recipients

Paula D. Welch, Ed.D., professor emerita, delivered the guest speaker address. Kyla Rakoczy, BS APK '19 from Boca Raton, was selected as the student speaker.

Recognizing alumni, faculty, staff and students who are making an impact within The Gator Nation and beyond

NAMED PROFESSOR IN HEALTH EDUCATION & BEHAVIOR ANNOUNCED
Congratulations to Robert Leeman –Mary F. Lane Endowed Professor

Robert Leeman, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Health Education & Behavior, was named the inaugural Mary F. Lane Endowed Professor to be housed in HHP in perpetuity.

KEITH HUMPHREYS ADDRESSES OPIOID EPIDEMIC
His presentation, "Effective Strategies for Responding to the Opioid Crisis," discussed multiple tactics that have some effectiveness in reducing the opioid epidemic and associated harms

REMEMBERING ROBERT SINGER
We are sad to share the passing of Robert "Bob" Singer, Ph.D., retired chair

Dr. Singer was a leading figure in the fields of motor learning and sport psychology and led the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences to international prominence during his 15-year tenure.
