With the warmer weather and regular sunshine, it is already close to when the tassel begins to take its journey up the stalk and prepares to release its pollen!

Hello Friends!

What gorgeous sunshine we have been having!

The above poem by Alice Cary sure reminds us of our Grandma Lulu with its spirituality wrapped up in nature and the belief to actively shine with gratitude.

Alice Cary and her sister Phoebe also spent much of their lives on a Midwestern farm and their poetry regularly used natural imagery to convey moral messages.

As farmers, it is easy to be reminded of the central importance the sun plays in our growing.

Right now, if we were a sunbeam, we would most certainly continue to shine on our sweet corn crop as we grow for another big season of Turners Fresh Sweet Corn! There is absolutely nothing more important in bringing our sweet corn on than these sunny days. So much of farming is a collaborative effort of working with this wonder of a universe that gives us life...and tasty sweet corn!

As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "I have no hostility to nature, but a child's love to it. I expand and live in the warm day like corn and melons."

Beyond our dependency on the sun for food, the sun also plays such a huge role in our moods, our time-keeping, our art-making and in the varied history of man's diverse cultures, religions and myth-making.

So much of our family's sense of meaning of this life comes from our relation to the natural world and the joys of living and working in it!

With that in mind, enjoy the sunshine this week as well as the tasty bounty of fruits and vegetables in the market this week. From local asparagus, rhubarb, green garlic, green onions and salad mixes to the Georgia watermelon and cantaloupe on sale...there is much to be grateful for in our seasonal eating!

1) TacoMaiz Food Truck

will be back serving Michoacan style authentic Mexican food including two kinds of tamales, delicious quesabirrias and more prepared by the lovely Juarez Family! The reviews are in: our community loves their food!

10am-2pm

2) Central Wisconsin's Desperate Ottos

will be playing an all ages blend of traditional country, Americana, roots, blues, swing, rockabilly and rock & roll from 11am-2pm. Love having these guys on the farm!

3) Come Garden With Us! Kids Gardening Activity!

Between 10am-11am, join Tara Turner, "Aunt Jeanne" Bootz & Mary Feldt as they help kids plant and learn to care for a vegetable plant that they get to take home. They will also tour our hoop houses to learn about all we are growing!

$5 per child. Please show up at 9:55am on Saturday morning, so as not to miss it!

Just let us know your name and how many kids will be joining us! If you forget to sign up, we hope to be able to serve all who simply show up on Saturday morning!

4) Local fine artist & calligrapher Davette Leonard will be doing calligraphy on site from 10am-Noon.

Davette employs classical forms of Calligraphy that reach into the traditions of ancient Roman lettering and its evolution through to the 21st century.

Watch her design garden signs for stakes in your vegetable gardens!

Enquire about the ways that she can bring this ancient art form into your work and home projects!

We have employed Davette to do our logo as well as other signs at Turners. Not to mention, wedding invitations, cards, and artwork! Davette will have art work for sale onsite!

5) Bide-E-Wee Bakery

is Back With All Their Delicious Breads and Baked Treats!

"Time for a great Bagel!

We’ve found that customers love the Bide-a-Wee Bagels. They’re Sandwich Bagels, meaning they make for a great bread alternative, since they’re soft. Toasted, these Bagels make an outstanding base for anything from cream cheese to peanut butter to hummus!
