Greetings everyone. This is my last message to you as our chapter president. Serving as AAP District IX, Chapter 2 president for the last two years has been a great honor and privilege.
The COVID-19 pandemic kept members of our executive committee busy with advocacy efforts related to helping children with safe school reopening, mental health issues, vaccine related issues, and many more.
|
|
During the same time period, we ran webinars for pediatricians to train them on telehealth services to improve access to care for patients. We continued with our educational activities uninterrupted and ran successfully three seminars (two virtual, and one hybrid) in the past two years.
Now it is time for the next president of our chapter, Dr. Grant Christman, to take over and lead our organization for the next two years, starting July 1st 2022. I am confident that he will do a great job and I wish him all the best. Before I say goodbye, I want to thank our present executive committee members, members at large, area representatives, SGA committee representatives, and individual committee chairs, for their collaboration and their commitment to the mission of our chapter. Special thanks to our immediate past president, Dr. Alice Kuo, for her thoughtful suggestions during our meeting deliberations. The greatest asset we have is our chapter executive director Dr. Tomas Torices. He brings ideas into action effortlessly with his passion and expertise. I want to thank him for the wonderful work that he is doing.
Without membership there is no organization, and there would be no mission. Your continued membership is the lifeline of our organization to help children and the pediatricians who provide care for them. I want to thank you all for being members of the chapter and supporting our advocacy efforts.
I would like to welcome our new chapter members and encourage them to make use of the resources available on our website, aapca2.org
Our Member Spotlight features Dr. Robert Adler of Children's Hospital Los Angeles . I hope to see more of you participate and make this part of the newsletter interesting, by submitting your personal narratives to be published.
The Residency Corner has been featuring the finalists of the 2022 Research Awards. This month we have Juhee Agrawal, a medical student from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Assembly bill AB 35 passed both chambers, and the governor signed the bill into law in May 2022. This changes the MICRA provisions starting January 1, 2023.
Best wishes,
D. Rajasekhar, MD, FAAP

The Quorum
The Formula Shortage Crisis
By Karinne Van Groningen, MD, MPH - Legislative and Policy Analyst
It’s been over three months since Abbott Nutrition issued a voluntary recall of powder formula manufactured at a plant in Michigan, spearheading the infant formula shortage crisis. But it wasn’t only this recall that led to the ongoing shortage – pandemic related supply chain issues and long-standing market concentration among four formula companies serve as the basis for the problem. About a month ago... Read more

As we celebrate Pride Month, Natalia I. Sidhu, MD, MS has created a shareable infographic to encourage you to advocate for LGBTQ+ youth in your practice.
