Enjoying pedal-powered music!

This month we were honored to be part of WTTW Chicago's American Graduate project, which culminated in a huge Celebration of Graduation in Tuley Park. Celebrants went on a slow bike ride (aka Slow Roll) through the surrounding South Side neighborhoods, and wound up at our pedal-powered stage, chilling out or biking some more to power the party.

Pedal-powered concerts work outdoors and indoors. A cool way to take part of your power needs off the grid, and impress your friends! Our kit supported two recent concerts at Whole Foods on Goose Island, leading up to the  Green Music Fest in Wicker Park.

Throwback Tuesday - Solar on Smyser
Installing Smyser solar in 2012. ? Emily Leiman
It is amazing how much energy a solar panel array can produce over time. Climate Cycle awarded a 1 kW array to Smyser Elementary in 2011. The timeline from award to installation (complete with an online monitoring system) was one year.

From August 2, 2012 to today, this 1 kW array has generated 4.9 megawatt-hours of electricity, enough to power a refrigerator for three years or your mobile phone for 154 years!

 1 megawatt hour = 1,000 kilowatt hours
