Flat Creek bridge repairs start this week

After quickly repairing the multiuse path tunnels, the city's contractor is moving on to Flat Creek bridge.

Damaged pickets, railings and worn deck boards will be replaced starting November 28th. The contractor will also fill cracks along with bridge with epoxy before applying a waterproof stain to the crossing

The work is expected to take 4 - 5 weeks (weather permitting). Flat Creek bridge will be closed during this time.

Riley Track Update

Public Works Crews did a great job removing the rubber surface from the track.

Today (11/28), they will start removal of the actual asphalt in anticipation of the contractor mobilizing the week of December 5th

Starting today, the track will be closed for the duration of the asphalt reconstruction. This work is anticipated to take several weeks depending on weather. Once the contractor starts checking the subgrade for suitability of asphalt placement the City will have a better idea of a timeline to finish asphalt placement.

Buy a gift for Fayette County's seniors

this holiday season

Fayette County Senior Services hope they can bring another round of cheer to our aging residents this holiday season.

Community partners and other individuals come together and provide around 100 local seniors with presents. It's called "Hope for the Holidays."

“The purpose of Hope for the Holidays is to spread holiday cheer to seniors who are financially challenged, shut-in, or lonely and who may otherwise not have any gifts this holiday season," Fayette Senior Services case manager Iris Harris said.

"Hope for the Holidays" is like the popular gift exchange, "Secret Santa."

Ornaments hang on Christmas trees at Senior Services offices in Fayetteville and Peachtree City. Each ornament includes a wish from a senior. People can come by, choose an ornament, and buy that gift. Volunteers then wrap the presents and deliver them along with a bag of fresh fruit.

This is the tenth consecutive year of "Hope for the Holidays."

Those wanting to buy a gift for Fayette's seniors can drop by the agency's Fayetteville and Peachtree City locations, and pick an ornament. The deadline to return gifts is Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

For more details, email Morgan Lanier at mlanier@fayss.org or give her a call at 770-769-8430.
