Micki Evslin and Peri Wolfman are new scholarship donors for this month. Special thanks to Jackie Reuling for becoming a monthly scholarship donor. This is a big help for cash flow, Jackie!

Thank you to all who have donated to our scholarship fund in previous months.

Please note: This fall, there will be ten (yes 10!) students who will be seniors in high school. All ten share the goal of attending university and having a professional career. Please consider donating to the university scholarship fund to help ensure that future high school graduates like these can achieve their career goals.  If you would like to donate to this fund, click here!

Thank you to Barbara Lindlan and Jessica Sedan Long for their generous donations to Las Hermanas. Jessica, we appreciate that you have made your donation monthly!

Thank you to Harry and Kim Aldrich for their generous donation for three months of rent. This is a hugh help and we really appreciate it! If you would like to donate to our rental fund, click here.

Thank you to Tazio Pintado for celebrating his birthday by holding a Las Hermanas Fundraiser on his Facebook page. This is a great way to support our work. Thank you to Tazio, Ricardo Pintado DeSirignano, Nancy Carr, and Kim Kovel for donating to the birthday fundraiser. If you are interested in holding your own Facebook birthday fundraiser, and would like guidance on how to do so, please contact us!

Back to School

Local students return to school on August 26, and Las Hermanas is busy preparing to assist them.

We are in our 10th year of providing financial help for school transportation, and our efforts continue this coming school year, as we transport 11 Majahua students to secondaria, or middle school, in Lagunillas, and help 49 Majahua and Troncones students get to high school, or prepa, in La Union, Pantla, and Zihuatenejo. Many people are surprised to hear that there is no high school in our immediate area, nor is there government-provided school transportation, and this lack creates a huge barrier to many families who want their children to continue their education. This is our signature program, and we appreciate all of your donations to keep it going. If you would like to be part of this life-changing initiative, here is the link to donate: School Transportation Program.

To help kick off the 2024-25 transportation program, we welcomed the high school students and their families to the Las Hermanas Library. There we shared the details of the program and resources available to support their learning. They received new library membership cards, along with a contract to sign outlining expectations, and a questionnaire, to help us get to know them better and to help inform future educational programming.  We also spoke about our organization, and how we partner with the community to raise the funds needed to support education. We talked about the Kermes, our November celebration and fundraiser at the fairgrounds, and encouraged everyone to start thinking about how they were going to participate.

We want all our students to succeed in their studies, so we will continue to provide after-school help with reading and math in our Learning Center. Additionally, our Library, or

Biblioteca, is open four afternoons per week, and is staffed by our lead teacher, Benjamin, who provides academic assistance to all students who need it, from primary through high school.

We Love a Success Story

Ashley Joselin Guillen Vega arrived at her high school in La Union last fall, ready to begin her studies in office automation technology. She has big dreams, with plans to study office systems engineering at the university level. Her love of technology has inspired her to seek a future in which she will develop solutions that improve and facilitate office work.

She brought along her refurbished Chrome book, which Las Hermanas distributes to all rising high school students. She was told, however, that this laptop would be insufficient for the type of classes that would be taking. She confided in Las Hermanas representatives that she needed help. Could we provide her with a more advanced laptop so that she would be equipped to take the necessary technical classes she needed to pursue her dreams?

We were able to find the appropriate laptop for her, and she went on to complete her first year of high school. As a result of her hard work and determination, she was honored at a recent ceremony for being first in her class. Ashley credits her academic success to our providing the upgraded laptop. We are so proud of her, and grateful to our donors for making this purchase possible.

We have over 20 new high school, or prepa students, and they need laptops in order to be successful in their class work. We have identified a source for refurbished Chrome books, which keeps the price down, but that expense adds up when supporting this many students. We would love it if you would contribute to our computer fund by clicking this link: Sponsor a Laptop. Thank you!
