Patriots' Day Weekend April 15-16
Old Sturbridge Village Commemorates American Patriots with
Music, Muskets, and Marching
|

Sturbridge, MA - Old Sturbridge Village will honor Patriot's Day (April 17) with a weekend of fifes and drums and the booming of musket fire as soldiers muster on the historic Common. Visitors will participate in programs and activities throughout the day hearing stories of patriots who helped lay the groundwork for the founding of our country during the American Revolution as well as military history from the 19th and 20th centuries. The weekend's highlight will be the visiting re-enactment groups representing different wars. They include:
- 5th Connecticut Regiment (American Revolution)
- USS Constitution 1812 Marine Guard (War of 1812)
- 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry (American Civil War)
- U.S. Naval Landing Party (American Civil War)
- 1st Mass Cavalry (Civil War)
- 504th Paratroopers (WW2)
- 26th Yankee Division (WW2)
- B. Historical (WW2)
Watch as the groups prepare for battle, tour their camps and see how they lived on the road, and learn to drill and march with them! In the blacksmith shop, guests will see how musket balls were cast from lead. On Saturday at noon take a walking tour with the Director of Curatorial and Research, Derek Heidemann, and learn more about the role of Powder Houses in New England.
In addition, there will be a showing of the documentary, The Borinqueneers on Saturday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Brewer Theater. This documentary shares the fascinating never-before-told story of the Puerto Rican 65th Infantry Regiment, the only all-Latino unit in U.S. Army History.
Guests will also enjoy seeing new lambs born this spring, in addition to pigs, cows, oxen, and chickens. The households will prepare for spring and craftspeople will carry on important work and trades.

Old Sturbridge Village, first opened to the public in 1946, is one of the country's oldest and largest living history museums, celebrating life in early New England from 1790-1840. It is the largest living history museum in the Northeast.
