Pray to End the Death Penalty
Pope Francis has designated the month of September to pray for the "global abolition of the death penalty." This intention comes at a providential time throughout the world, and especially here in the United States, where several states have set upcoming execution dates. There is no better time than now to pray together to end this death-dealing practice.

The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops is pleased to collaborate with Catholic Mobilizing Network (CMN) and Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (FADP) to build a culture of life and put mercy in action. Capital punishment is not necessary to carry out justice and keep communities safe.

Pope Francis released a video message requesting prayer and action across the world to abolish the death penalty: "Society can effectively repress crime without definitively depriving offenders of the opportunity to redeem themselves. Always, in every legal sentence, there must be a window of hope." Watch the full video message from Pope Francis.

September is Suicide Prevention Month
Nearly 2% of all deaths are from suicide. This has resulted in the tragic loss of many lives among our faithful and in our communities. It has also resulted in devastating grief for the loved ones mourning those losses. For helpful resources related to suicide prevention, visit the CDC website. You can register to become an advocate for suicide prevention through the Suicide Prevention Training Institute, with sessions being offered in Tampa, September 16 and 17 and November 4 and 5

For free liturgical resources, visit the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers (CMHM) website. All are invited to participate virtually in a Mass for Suicide Healing and Remembrance with Bishop Joseph C. Bambera, of the Diocese of Scranton, on Sunday, September 18, 12:15 p.m. The Mass will be broadcast via livestream at this link.

St. Petersburg. Going forward, this enrichment opportunity will be available for parishes to offer, using the WWME enrichment teams.
