THE HIGH CO$T OF EDUCATION
ABAC, other Ga. colleges see tuition hike
The state Board of Regents this week OK'd a plan to raise tuition at Georgia public colleges and universities by $32 to $270 more per semester starting next fall.
Tuition hikes approved by the regents for Georgia's 31 public schools were held at the same rate as increases adopted a year ago. While most colleges will see tuition hikes at about 2.5 percent, the state's four largest universities will raise their rates even more.
In-state tuition at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton will rise from $1,423 to $1,459 per semester, according to the regents.
Tuition at Valdosta State University will increase from $2,426 TO $2,487 per semester, while students at the University of Georgia will see tuition rise from $3,823 per semester to $4,014.
Georgia Tech students get the hardest hit, with in-state undergraduates paying an extra $270, or 7 percent more each semester. UGA's increase is 5 percent. Georgia State University in Atlanta and Georgia Regents University in Augusta will both raise undergraduate tuition 3.5 percent, about $131 per semester.
