European Union to Reform Carbon Trading Scheme

European ministers of environment agreed on a common approach to reform the European Trading System (ETS). As Miguel Arias CaƱete, the European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy states: "(...) today's agreement demonstrates once more the European Union's strong commitment to show leadership on climate action and help drive the global transition to clean energy."

The Minister of Environment and Drainage of Barbados, Dr. Dennis Lowe, highlighted the impact that the green economy has had on the country, "moving from a fringe concept on the environment to a widely embraced approach for economic prosperity, and a key building block for Barbados' forward growth strategy". His statement came during PAGE's mission to Barbados on February 7-10, which defined the activities to be carried out under the one-year inception-stocktaking phase of PAGE in the country.

Consultations on Green Economy Stocktaking in Kyrgyz Republic

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Economy, 70 stakeholders gathered in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, to discuss the preliminary findings of a green economy stocktaking exercise that kicks off activities of PAGE in Kyrgyz Republic. Representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Agriculture and Finance, the State Agency of Environment Protection and Forestry, the National Statistics Committee, and civil society experts on gender, business and environment shared their insights on challenges and opportunities for green economy in the country, including through PAGE.

About PAGE

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) seeks to put sustainability at the heart of economic policy and practice.

The Partnership supports nations and regions in reframing economic policies and practices around sustainability to foster economic growth, create income and jobs, reduce poverty and inequality, and strengthen the ecological foundations of their economies.

PAGE is a direct response to the Rio+20 Declaration,  The Future We Want, which called upon the United Nations System and the international community to provide assistance to interested countries in developing, adopting, and implementing green economy policies and strategies.

 
Bringing together the expertise of five UN agencies - UN Environment, ILO, UNIDO, UNDP, and UNITAR - and working closely with national governments, PAGE offers a comprehensive and coordinated package of technical assistance and capacity building services. 

 
PAGE represents a mechanism to coordinate UN action on green economy and to assist countries in achieving and monitoring the emerging Sustainable Development Goals.
