Asking the Tough Questions

Feel like you've effectively de-cluttered and organized your bathroom and it's still deficient? Consider the following before you remodel:

  1. Why do you want/need to remodel your bath? Will cosmetic changes, such as paint and new faucets, make you love your bath or does it require a complete tear-out to improve an inefficient traffic pattern? Write down the things you love and hate about the space, and prioritize your goals.
  2. How long do you expect to live in your home? If you intend to sell your home in the next five years, then an extensive master bath remodel is probably not the best choice, and you might not get a good  return on investment (ROI). However, if you plan to live in your home for the next 10-20 years, then remodeling soon would allow you to get the best value for your money, or 'return on enjoyment'. (ROE)
  3. What are you able/willing to spend? Be honest about your budget. The bathroom is the second most expensive room in the house to remodel, after the kitchen. The amount you're willing to invest may help determine whether you refresh or do a complete remodel.
  4. If money wasn't an issue, what would you like to have in your bath? Collect photos from magazines and specs on fixtures and hardware that you like & put them in your 'Inspiration Binder'. Get on Pinterest and poke around for ideas & save them to your Remodeling board. Let your imagination go wild for now-you can always pull back later. Don't worry about changing your mind early in the process. Ideas cost nothing at this point. Have fun!
  5. What's your style? What style would make you feel the most energized-or relaxed-Traditional, Spa, Asian, Contemporary, Natural, or Country Cottage? It doesn't have to have a name, just collect pictures that speak to that need & put them in your binder.
Cut out pictures in magazines or print online ideas and write on the picture what you like about it. Hole punch and place in an idea binder.    -Photo Parrish
  6. If I remodel, how will I change the space? Get 'as built' drawings of the existing space and 'play' with different room layouts. If you don't have blueprints, you can make your own scale drawing or, for a small fee, have a professional draw it for you.Make photocopies and start drawing. If you don't feel comfortable drawing your ideas, hire an experienced bathroom designer to come up with a few ideas for you.

With DesignBuild dream a bathroom big or small and we will build it for you with all the attention to detail we are known for. The main benefit of this DesignBuild system is to minimize the project risk for an owner and to reduce the delivery schedule by overlapping the design phase and estimating and construction phase of a project.

You dream it. We build it.
