City of Delray Beach Launches the ‘Park Smart’ paid parking program on East Atlantic Avenue
Delray Beach, FL, June 20, 2018 - The City of Delray Beach will launch the ‘Park Smart’ paid parking program on East Atlantic Avenue beginning Monday, June 25. The parking program is the City’s aim to provide all its customers the opportunity to enjoy Downtown Delray Beach’s unique mix of small businesses, restaurants and shops, by encouraging turnover of parking spaces.
The paid parking program will include on-street parking on Atlantic Avenue beginning east of Swinton Avenue, towards the Intracoastal Waterway, the side streets one block north, and one block south of Atlantic Avenue. The parking fee will be $2 per hour, with a maximum of 3 hours PER SPACE. Paid parking hours will be from 12 pm until 9 pm, Sunday through Thursday, and 12 pm until 2 am on Friday and Saturday.
Like the payment options already in place at the beach, public parking lots and garages, City residents, visitors and the business community will be able to conveniently pay to park using the ParkMobile app or by using the parking kiosks. ParkMobile enables customers to enter a zone number and pay directly from their cell phone while the parking kiosk allows customers to pay for parking using cash or credit card, never having to return to the car to place a slip on the dashboard. There will be new signage for on-street parking located throughout the Downtown area.
To accommodate customers who need to run a quick errand and only want to park for a short time, the first 20 minutes of parking will be free. They must simply enter the zone number on the ParkMobile app or use the nearby parking kiosk and enter their license plate number. If customers need to park for more than 20 minutes, they must pay for additional time through the ParkMobile app or parking kiosk.
Those seeking to park for more than 3 hours, may want to consider the public parking garages or the free public parking lots with extended time limits. From Monday through Saturday, the Old School Square and Robert Federpsiel garages are free before 4 pm and a flat rate of $5 from 4pm until midnight. Sundays are free in both garages. Customers are always encouraged to check signage prior to parking in a public lot as private lots are independently operated and enforce their own parking policy.
In an effort to help educate customers on the parking program, parking violations that occur in the paid parking areas on east Atlantic Avenue will only receive a warning citation starting on June 25. After 30 days, actual citations will be issued. The City will continue to work closely with the Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Safety Ambassadors and the City’s parking management company, Lanier Parking to ensure the public is informed about the new parking changes. Also, parking personnel will be in the downtown area helping customers use the ParkMobile app and parking kiosks. Informational brochures and cards will be available at City Hall, the Downtown Visitor Information Center and parking garages.
