Summer Celebrations

I hope to see you out and about on the trails this month as we welcome the summer season, Fourth of July holiday, and National Park and Recreation Month. There is much to celebrate in the great outdoors, including the East Bay Regional Park District's 90th Anniversary, which we have been celebrating throughout the year with fun events, activities, and programs!
In preparation for all these celebrations and excursions, remember to check weather conditions before heading out. Always bring plenty of water for yourself and your pets, and let someone know where you are planning to go and when you expect to be back. If visiting parks on a hotter day, look for tips on the ParK District's Heat Safety webpage. A few minutes of preparation will ensure that your outdoor adventures are safe and fun.

Let's lace up those running shoes and hit the trails at the Regional Parks Foundation's Lakeside Laps on July 20 at Lake Chabot Regional Park. Lakeside Laps and the Finish Line Festival celebrate the Park District's 90th Anniversary and support the Regional Parks Foundation. All proceeds benefit the Regional Parks Foundation and its mission to connect youth with nature and expand access to Regional Parks.
Register today for the Trout Trot 5k, 10k, or half marathon - all fitness levels are welcome! More info.

Be Fire Smart in Regional Parks

July is a special month full of sunny days and warm summer nights. It’s also a time to take extra precautions due to the increased risk of wildfires in Regional Parks and neighboring communities. With July 4th this week, remember that fireworks are not allowed in Regional Parks or shorelines.
Be fire smart and aware of fire danger levels, red flag warnings, and fire safety. The Park District urges all visitors to enjoy their Regional Parks safely and responsibly, and to be prepared for the upcoming wildfire season. More info.
| 90th Anniversary Photo Collection | The East Bay Park District is proud to unveil the Martin J. Cooney “Park Landscapes” online photo collection as part of the 90th Anniversary celebrations! The digital photo exhibit debuts a rare gathering of beautiful and nostalgic images that capture parklands and views of the East Bay from 1965 to 1981. The Martin J. Cooney “Park Landscapes” collection has been carefully researched and curated by Park District Archives staff and volunteers, who have dedicated many hours to the preservation of the Park District’s history. Del Valle Entry Fee Pilot Program Reminder | When visiting Del Valle Regional Park on a weekend or holiday (including July 5), don't forget about the new streamlined pilot entry program continuing through Labor Day weekend. The $10 flat fee covers parking, trailers, and dogs. As vehicles approach the kiosk, there is a separate line for pre-paid parking, staff, Regional Parks Foundation members, visitors with camping reservations (not picnic reservations), and residents. The $10 fee does not apply to Regional Parks Foundation members, who receive free park entry/parking at all Regional Parks as part of their membership benefits. To help expedite entry, a limited number of park passes are available for pre-purchase online. More info. | |

| At the most recent Briones Pilot Project Community meeting, about 75 community members – hikers, cyclists, and equestrians – joined East Bay Regional Park District staff to discuss the project's first year of successes and challenges. Additional feedback can be submitted on the project webpage via an online survey or by adding a comment on the pilot project's interactive map. More info. | |
Save the Date: National Night Out Tuesday, August 6 at Lake Chabot | Join the Park District's Police Department, Fire Department, and Lifeguard Services for an exciting evening of community bonding and fun at Lake Chabot for the second annual National Night Out celebration, where parkgoers are invited to come together to celebrate and strengthen community ties. All are welcome to this FREE event. More info. | Funds Secured for Bay Trail Gap Closure Project in Martinez | Park District leaders joined U.S. Representative John Garamendi to celebrate his work to secure $900,000 in funding for the East Bay Regional Park District's San Francisco Bay Trail Gap Closure project in Martinez. The funding will help close a critical half-mile gap in the San Francisco Bay Trail, connecting the Park District’s current George Miller Regional Trail (part of the SF Bay Trail) to the downtown Martinez intermodal station. It is a time to celebrate and recognize the essential services that parks provide the public, including habitat preservation, environmental stewardship, interpretive and recreational programming, and places that support healthy outdoor recreation and exercise. Especially this month, enjoy East Bay Regional Parks! | |
Historic Wheat Harvest at Ardenwood Farm | Follow a plump wheat berry’s journey from the farm’s field to table. Enjoy the opportunity to thresh, winnow, and grind the grain into wholesome, stone-ground flour. The programs span three Sundays in July; no registration required. Ardenwood admission fee applies. More info. | Community Campfire Programs in Regional Parks | Experience unforgettable evenings under the stars with the East Bay Regional Park District's captivating campfire programs at Del Valle Regional Park, Big Break Regional Shoreline, Dumbarton Quarry Campground on the Bay, and Anthony Chabot Campground. These family-friendly events offer nature education, storytelling, and stargazing and foster a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Did you know that California has a state bat? The pallid bat was designated as the California state bat in October 2023. It’s golden fur, diverse range of habitats, and positive effects on the environment fit in well with the rest of the Golden State's symbols.
