Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator:

Cooler weather is in the air and Respect Life Month is here! This year's theme "Live the Gospel of Life" is inspired by the 25th anniversary of St. John Paul II's encyclical The Gospel of Life.

By now your parish should have received the U.S. Bishops' Respect Life packet. If you haven't yet, please make an appointment with your pastor to review all of the great resources and ideas available to your parish. Materials are also available to review and print in the left sidebar.

Keeping health protocols in mind, this month has many opportunities for special prayer and public witness for your parish family to join:

ST. IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH

This month we celebrate the Feast day of St. Ignatius of Antioch, who was born in Syria, converted to Christianity and eventually became bishop of Antioch. In the year 107, Emperor Trajan visited Antioch and forced the Christians there to choose between death and apostasy. Ignatius would not deny Christ and thus was condemned to be put to death in Rome.

Ignatius is well known for the letters he wrote on the long journey from Antioch to Rome, urging the Christians there to remain faithful to God and begging those in Rome not to try to stop his martyrdom: "The only thing I ask of you is to allow me to offer the libation of my blood to God. I am the wheat of the Lord; may I be ground by the teeth of the beasts to become the immaculate bread of Christ." Ignatius bravely met the lions in the Circus Maximus.

Thank you for bravely meeting the challenges that we encounter as we work to advance the Gospel of Life. God Bless You!
