SMM Transition News

PLANNING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER!

On Tuesday April 2, we will launch the Church Assessment Tool (CAT), an on-line instrument that will help the Vestry gauge the strength, vitality, and trends in our church. The information gained from this assessment will be valuable in helping us to make decisions about the future of St. Mary Magdalene.

An email message will go out to parishioners with a unique link to the CAT and instructions for completing the survey. It is preferable that the survey be completed online. But, if necessary, you may obtain a paper copy from the office, with a self-addressed stamped return envelope.

All answers are strictly anonymous. We have no way of matching any assessment to a particular person, so please feel free to candidly share your perceptions, opinions and experiences. Our future together is dependent on your participation and honest answers. The survey should be completed by individuals, if you share an email with another adult parishioner (over the age of 16) in your household you may each submit a survey from the same link. Just be sure to complete one before beginning another.

If you have questions, please contact Janet Poley at jrpoley@comcast.net

We are grateful for your participation in the life of St. Mary Magdalene.

Your Vestry,

Janet Poley, Sr. Warden, Dennis Sack, Jr. Warden, Margaret Buttery, Cris Crisfield,

Jason Barnhardt, Judy Nieusma, Tim Beaton, Jane Rogers

First Aid Classes offered at SMM

As part of our safety and security plan and our effort to care for each other, SMM offers American Heart Association CPR/AED/First Aid classes as well as The American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED classes.

The AHA Heartsaver course covers CPR for all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator (like the one we have in the sanctuary), and first aid for a variety of situations. The class is 4 hours in length. If you don’t feel like you could physically perform CPR, please consider taking the course anyway - there are many other aspects to helping in an emergency. Cost is $25, which covers the textbook and card. Scholarships are available through SMM if cost is a concern.

The STOP THE BLEED class teaches how to control catastrophic bleeding. This class will teach you how to use our Stop the Bleed kit in about an hour. Cost for this class is $5 which covers the booklet and materials.

Upcoming class dates:

  • AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED/FIrst Aid: April 6th and June 29th. Two classes are available each date: 8:00-12:00 and 12:30-4:30 (sign up for only one time). Max students per class is 6.

  • The American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED classMay 19th and July 7th  following the service in the library. Max students per class is 8.
