Sunday Evenings throughout the Summer

Dear Parishioners:

Since January, St. Ignatius has offered a 6 pm Mass on Sundays for young adults and those who find Sunday nights a convenient time to worship. Attendance has been lower than expected and I suspect summer months will draw even fewer. Therefore, I will suspend the 6 pm Mass in June, July, and August. During the Summer, Sam Jennings, Young Adults Committee Chair, will confer with the Young Adults Group when they wish to meet for their potluck supper. I hope this schedule meets parish needs, especially our Young Adults Group.

Gospel Reflection

Editor's Note: Next Sunday’s Gospel reading is John 17:11b-19 often called the High Priestly Prayer. Enjoy this reflection on a portion of that passage. - JCO

Pentecost-and-John-20-scaled image

by Rev. James Laurence

Next weekend we celebrate one of the great festivals in our church year, the Day of Pentecost. When we think of Pentecost, most of us probably think of the famous account of it in the Acts of the Apostles, which was our first reading today (Acts 2:1-21). We think of the “sound like the rush of a violent wind”; the tongues of fire resting on the apostles; and those apostles speaking miraculously in other languages. It was an exciting day for those apostles and for all those present, a day that is important enough that we remember it every year on this particular Sunday.

But today’s gospel reading offers us a very different Pentecost – quieter, but no less important. Because it shows us that the Holy Spirit comes to us in a wide variety of ways, and often not in a way that is as dramatic and as obvious as what happened on the famous Day of Pentecost.

Chances are that you have not experienced the Holy Spirit coming to you with a sound like the rush of a violent wind. You probably haven’t experienced divided tongues, as of fire, dancing on your head. And you probably haven’t miraculously preached in other languages that you have never even studied. But that’s okay. Neither have I! The Holy Spirit comes to us in an incredible variety of ways, many of which are far less dramatic than that. READ MORE

Tips For Care For The Earth

Save gas: Combine errands or use public transportation, walk, or bike.

Consider buying smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. There are tax incentives for some EVs and hybrids. EVs produce 3,932 pounds of carbon equivalent per year, compared to 11,435 for gas powered vehicles (US Department of Energy). In one year driving a hybrid prevents the equivalent of 5,177 pounds of CO2e or 2,587 pounds of coal, from being burned into the Earth’s atmosphere.

Parish Office Renovations

temp-Image2-Y4ovm image

In April, our Maintenance Crew completed a renovation of the entryway to the Parish Offices. They carpeted, created new lighting, used darker paint tones for the hallway hung paintings and sketches belonging to the parish. One painting may look familiar. It is Madonna della Strada, which is similar to the painting in our church narthex. Thank you Pime and Raul for your work to beautify St. Ignatius!
