VIRGINIA KEY 2016 GRASS ROOTS FESTIVAL!!!!

ABOUT GRASSROOTS GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance is a mission-based (501-c3) organization that hosts four music/dance festivals and two sustainability fairs a year in three different states across the east coast. GrassRoots brings multi-cultural communities together through the magic of music, art, dance, education, wellness and sustainability. The original Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival began in 1990 as a benefit concert to support a local AIDS organization in Ithaca, NY. The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival has become an internationally recognized event with a focus on traditional and contemporary roots music and dance from all over the world. Twelve years later, the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival was launched on a 75-acre farm in rural North Carolina near the triangle cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. The festival is down south for the winter once again, having found an amazing site, the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, just off the coast of Miami, FL. It's the ideal spot for the fifth annual Virginia Key GrassRoots Festival. GrassRoots works to nurture local artists and talent while reaching around the globe to bring world music and culture to new audiences, creating environments that inspire creativity and foster community building. The impact of GrassRoots expands far beyond that which occurs during these four-day festivals. For over 25 years, GrassRoots has served to both engage and give back to the local and regional communities in which we exist by providing financial and organizational support to impact positive change. How to Make Your Home a Soothing Sanctuary

Give your home some love this Valentine's Day (and beyond), and it will
 love you back.

Your home may never be a castle, but it can definitely be a haven - your own private refuge (at least after the kids are asleep) from the mayhem outside.
Creating a stress-free and soothing home environment can mean  hiring a contractor to install serious soundproofing or a spa-worthy  steam shower - pricey upgrades that are likely to add property value. But just as often, it's about simple things you can do without laying out a cent.

Start by remembering to take advantage of features your home already has, suggests  Gretchen Rubin, author of Happier at Home.

"Take time to light a fire in the fireplace, have coffee on the patio, take a bath," says Rubin.

Ready to boost your home's relaxation quotient? Here are some easy ways to do it:

Clear the Decks

One of Rubin's "secrets of adulthood" is that outer order contributes to inner calm. She advises clearing open surfaces of extraneous stuff, cleaning out closets, and generally straightening up. "These may seem trivial," says Rubin, "but this kind of orderliness really helps people feel more energetic and cheerful."

Go on a TV Diet

Here's a radical notion: Take the TV out of the main living space. There's nothing tranquility-inducing about blaring commercials or the evening news. Consider eliminating all but one TV for the household. Put it out of the way, where flicking it on won't be an automatic gesture, and feel your home's peace vibe rise.

Listen to Music

Music soothes you. Of course, it depends on the music. Find a commercial-free radio station you like and keep it at low volume. You'll be surprised at how the strains of cool jazz and classical music in the background soothe jangled nerves. A whole-house sound system costs as little as $400 for a wireless unit.

Muffle Irritating Noises

If you're serious about  blocking out noise - such as traffic noise - you can  soundproof walls and  ceilings by doubling up on drywall and caulking gaps where sound enters.

Carpets, drapes, and other soft materials help absorb sound. For walls, a quick, cheap, sound-muffling solution is  Homasote, a recycled cardboard material that costs about $25 for a 4-by-8-ft. sheet. It doubles as a pinboard, making it especially suited for children's rooms and home offices, and takes paint like a dream.

Soak Out the Stress

A prefab steam shower can run you $5,000 or more, but there are less pricey ways to take your  bathroom in a spa-like direction. Hot baths have been used for frayed nerves and sore muscles since Cleopatra's day. If your existing tub isn't deep enough, a 30-inch-deep soaking tub starts at around $500 (plus installation, of course). Don't forget the bath salts.

Color Yourself Calm

Blue is considered a restful  paint color, which is why decorators often choose it for bedrooms. Followers of the Chinese art of feng shui believe pink calms a room, while green - because it symbolizes nature - is serene and refreshing.

Light it Right

Overhead  lighting can be glary and unflattering, whereas light at lower levels creates warmth and intimacy. Balance an overhead fixture with  wall sconces and table lamps - and be sure to put that ceiling fixture on a dimmer, especially over a dining table.

Flickering Flames

Sitting by a crackling fire has nurtured souls from time immemorial. If you're lucky enough to have a  fireplace, use it to create relaxing ambience.

No fireplace? Make the most of candlelight for a mid-winter mood boost. Plain, long-burning candles from the supermarket are so inexpensive ($7 for a box of 72), you'll feel free to use them in abundance.

Flower Power

Freshly cut flowers provide measurable uplift, a new  behavioral research study shows.

"People who live with flowers report fewer episodes of anxiety and depressed feeings," says Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., a psychologist who conducted the study.

Chrysanthemums last longest; they can go up to three weeks in a vase, with alstroemeria, roses, and lilies a close second.

TO STAY OR NOT TO STAY

With Valentine's Day approaching, love is in the air....or is it?  So, what do you do when your relationship is in trouble? As a psychologist who works in both
couple's counseling  and collaborative divorce, the recommendation would be to try couple's counseling first.  It will open up communication that may have been shut down allowing the two of you to share thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment with a trained professional.  You may even find your way back to one another  by having the forum to openly and honestly express yourselves.  And, if you decide that divorce is the best option,  keeping a dialogue open through counseling will help your interaction with one another be positive. Divorce, even if necessary,  is difficult,  so if the two of  you are able to communicate, the process will be much smoother.  Finally, if there are children involved, communication is key to preserving your "family."  So, when you are deciding what the future of your relationship will be,  try couple's counseling as the first step.

INNER UNIVERSE- ALIGNMENT

Alignment is so beautiful, delicate and effective all at the same time. We often desire something we are not aligned with or ready to receive. Instead, line up yourself with the energy of your desire to produce what is called a vibrational match. You see, you cannot receive what you are not aligned with or a match to. For example, if your desire is to have more prosperity then it is going to be difficult to receive it if you're constantly complaining about how little money you have or how you never have enough. Instead, make a habit of recanting how abundant you are and citing all the amazing things you already have no matter the circumstances. Start basic if you must, like being grateful for the roof over your head, the food you are able to eat each day, the great country we live in and so on. It's all about the feeling. This is where the old adage "fake it till you make it" comes into play. Feel successful, healthy, thinner, happier or whatever you desire before any manifestation. Become a magnet of what you want in the areas of your life that you are looking to improve. This applies not only to finances but to all areas of your life including health, romance, career and so forth. Good habits take time to master but the payoff is effective and a wise long-term investment. Are you ready to fit the bill?
This is from the amazing work of Esther and Jerry Hicks.

STEPS TO BE MORE PRESENT IN YOUR LIFE

BY- VIOLETTE DE AYALA

In a world of 24/7 connectivity, ongoing comments on threads and documentation of hourly living, the present moment has escaped society. As we grasp onto the struggles of feeling disconnected, discontent and lonely, the answers can be found in the detachment of WIFI and apps.

The breakdown of an engaged community in many ways is being led by the continuous need to be connected to the superficial world of faux friends. Constant updates, picture posts and thread commenting, often occurs while conversing with real live humans. "Wait...let me finish this text..."

The importance of being present is a common theme. Many walk while texting, email while out with friends and yes, even utilizing facilities while chatting on the phone. It needs to stop. What happens to our brain when we really disconnect from our mobile gadgets, and start to see the world as a real time experience?

I encourage you to instill a weekly block of time to participate in a digital detox. Whether it's on Sundays or a block of time in the evening after dinner, designate a block in your schedule that will not include your eyeballs scanning your phone, tablet or computer. Here is what you might find while you cleanse your soul of digital conversation.

Humans are where it's at: It's incredibly enjoyable to be an active member of a real life conversation. Eyeballs connect, laughter occurs, and memories are created. Human interaction and the feeling of connectivity is exponentially better and more authentic face to face. Spend time with the humans around you.

Happiness level: Your happiness level will increase as a constant barrage of idolized imperfections has been documented to instill feelings of sadness and loneliness. These highly photo shopped images of lives presented in a glorified way, condition you to feel insignificant. If you are feeling bummed, this might be the reason. Their highlights are the only things being broadcasted. It's rare to see images of vomit, blistered feet and chipped nails.

Serenity: Shhh...do you hear that? Those are birds! When was the last time you sat outside and just listened to the beauty around you? These moments of serenity calm your soul, and allow you to hear your inner voice. This is where you may have your most creative ideas, find solutions to challenges and overall refocus on your path in life. This rarely happens while composing a message with 140 characters.

Opportunity: While you are at the party, and attached to your mobile device, the best opportunity passed you. Do you recall the photo that went viral of a man on a phone that had a whale jump behind him? He didn't even see it because he was on his phone messaging someone. He wasn't present and missed opportunity. Whether it's a business opportunity or a grand message from Mother Earth, these moments are missed while engaged in computer talk.

Start out taking hour breaks and once the side effects and the shakes succumb, add more digital detox to your day and week. The world is a beautiful place. You only need to look up for more than 10 seconds to see it again.

7 Reasons to Work With a REALTOR®

REALTORS® aren't just agents. They're professional members of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribe to its strict code of ethics. This is the REALTOR® difference for home buyers:
  1. An expert guide. Selling a home usually requires dozens of forms, reports, disclosures, and other technical documents. A knowledgeable expert will help you prepare the best deal, and avoid delays or costly mistakes. Also, there's a lot of jargon involved, so you want to work with a professional who can speak the language.
  2. Objective information and opinions. REALTORS® can provide local information on utilities, zoning, schools, and more. They also have objective information about each property. REALTORs®can use that data to help you determine if the property has what you need.
  3. Property marketing power. Property doesn't sell due to advertising alone. A large share of real estate sales comes as the result of a practitioner's contacts with previous clients, friends, and family. When a property is marketed by a REALTOR®, you do not have to allow strangers into your home. Your REALTOR® will generally prescreen and accompany qualified prospects through your property.
  4. Negotiation knowledge. There are many factors up for discussion in a deal. A REALTOR® will look at every angle from your perspective, including crafting a purchase agreement that allows you the flexibility you need to take that next step.
  5. Up-to-date experience. Most people sell only a few homes in a lifetime, usually with quite a few years in between each sale. Even if you've done it before, laws and regulations change. REALTORS®handle hundreds of transactions over the course of their career.
  6. Your rock during emotional moments. A home is so much more than four walls and a roof. And for most people, property represents the biggest purchase they'll ever make. Having a concerned, but objective, third party helps you stay focused on the issues most important to you.
  7. Ethical treatment. Every REALTOR® must adhere to a strict code of ethics, which is based on professionalism and protection of the public. As a REALTOR®'s client, you can expect honest and ethical treatment in all transaction-related matters.
