2024 Palos Park Chipper

The next chipping date of the season is April 29. The chipper will begin on the west side of the Village and move east until all public streets have been covered. Visit our website for all chipping information including regulations on what can and cannot be set out for the chipper.

Rid Litter Day 2024

A giant thank you to all the volunteers who came to our Rid Litter Day event on Saturday, April 20! We're so grateful to everyone who does their part to keep our Village looking clean, green and beautiful! Thank you to the Village of Palos Park Beautification Committee for all they do to make this a great event!

Arbor Day Foundation Names Palos Park a 2023 Tree City USA

The Village was again named a Tree City USA for 2023 by the Arbor Day Foundation. Click here to read the full press release.

Arbor Day Poster Contest

Kids ages 4-12 can enter The Village of Palos Park Abor Day Poster Contest. Based on our theme "Cicadas in the Park," posters can be turned in at the Kaptur Center by Wednesday, May 1. Guidelines for posters are:

  • 8.5 x 11 paper
  • Colored pencils, crayons, and markers
  • Provide name, age, and phone number on the back



A $25 prize per age group will be awarded (age groups are 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, & 10-12

Due to popular demand the sale of The Official Village flower, the Purple Coneflower, has been extended! To place your order, print out the form and bring it to Village Hall with your payment (cash or checks only). 


Orders and payments are due by May 31st, 2024. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Bujak at 708-671-3705.

In collaboration with our official village flower, artists from McCord Gallery and Cultural Center participated in a Purple Coneflower contest. Thank you to all everyone who participated. The beautiful works of art will be on display at McCord through May 3 so be sure to stop by and see them in person. Congratulations to our winners:

Dive into the fascinating world of cicadas with an engaging presentation, grab free seedlings to plant and nurture, and unleash your creativity in our poster contest. You won’t want to miss your chance to win exciting prizes in our raffle. Let's come together to honor trees, promote environmental awareness, and create a greener, brighter future for generations to come! 


Mark your calendars for Doggie Dash on May 18th

We welcome all furry and human companions to join us for either the 5k or

1-mile run/walk. After crossing the finish line, unwind at our post-race

village featuring delicious food, refreshing drinks, and pet-themed vendors.

And the excitement doesn't end there – make sure to catch our adorable puppy parade, where prizes await the best-dressed, cutest, and most charming pups! Register by May 1 to secure your shirt and participation medal.

Internet Safety

We live in an online world, and kids are spending more time on their screens than ever before. On average, children ages 8 to 12 spend five hours and 33 minutes on their phones or computers every day. Teens spend eight hours and 39 minutes according to The Common Sense Census: Media Use by Tweens and Teens, 2021.


When talking to your kids about internet safety remind them of the following:

STEAM: Want to be a Code Breaker?: 6:30 PM -7:15 PM Thursday, April 27. Have you ever wanted to break codes or send secret messages? Come to STEAM and learn about cryptology and cyphers. For ages 6-12. Register here.

 

Palos Park Reads Romance: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Monday, April 29. Do you love paperbacks, tropes, and happily-ever-afters? Join this new romance book discussion. The book this month is Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin- copies are available at the front desk. Attendees must be 18 or older to join. Register here.  

 

Star Storytime: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1. Join us for stories, crafts, and activities. These storytimes are intended for children ages 3-6 and their caregivers. Younger siblings are welcome to come and can visit the tot spot in the storytime room. Tuesday and Wednesday storytimes have the same content, just different days. 

 

Plant Swap: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Friday, May 3.  Plant lovers are invited to come together and trade pest-free plants of all kinds, which can include houseplants, potted plants, cuttings, seedlings, starters, succulents, air plants, wildflowers, etc.. Attendees should drop in with labeled plants. No registration needed. 

 

STEAM- Chihuly-inspired Art: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday, May 4. Create an art project based on the world renowned, glass blowing artist Dale Chihuly! Learn about the art and science behind glass blowing. A great decoration or gift for summer! For ages 6-12. Register here.

 

Star Wars with Snapology: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Saturday, May 4. Build and fly a Lego spaceship with your favorite Star Wars characters. Come dressed in your Star Wars best to receive special stickers. For ages 5-12. Register here.


Study Buddies: Therapy Dog Visit: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Monday, May 6. Do you need a break from the week or the finals frenzy? Swing by the library during crunch time and chill out with our therapy dogs. They're here to give you some fuzzy TLC and help you de-stress like a pro!


Intro to Mah Jong: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Friday, May 10. Join this exciting 3-part class on the basics of Mahjong. All levels of expertise are welcomed. All guests are encouraged to purchase a Mahjong card before classes begin. Registrants must sign up for all three sessions. Classes are Friday, May 10, Friday, May 17, and Friday, May 24. Singing the Blues at the Library: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM Saturday, May 11. Join Fruteland Jackson, a five-time Blues Music Award Nominee and recipient of the “Keeping the Blues Alive” award for an unforgettable night of oral history and live music. Register here.
