Holy Week and Easter
All are most welcome to join us in the Cathedral or via the livestreams for Holy Week and Easter. We are grateful that our liturgies are open to the public this year. The exception is the Chrism Mass, which we cannot open up due to the 150-person maximum that applies to all liturgies and services. We are excited to resume our traditional Communal Penance Service, the Liturgy of Tenebrae, and the Good Friday Seven Last Words Reflection, all in modified forms. See News, Events & Reminders below for parking garage hours for Holy Week & Easter.
Seating for all liturgies is first-come, first-served, and opening times are noted below. At all times in the Cathedral, masks or face coverings are required and social distancing is observed.
During Holy Week please pray for the repose of the soul of Msgr. Godfrey Mosley, and remember the sick who have asked for our prayers, especially, Arthur Loyall Kimbrell, Antonio Ponce-Condor, Gloria Harrington, Rick Bell and Bill Largess.

We are delighted once again to celebrate this beautiful liturgy that was missed by many in 2020. Music Director Thomas Stehle notes that the Cathedral’s Tenebrae (Latin for "darkness") is a modern adaptation and hybrid liturgy that combines elements of a venerable Holy Week adaptation of the Liturgy of the Hours dating from the 9th century. T he Schola Cantorum led the Tenebrae beginning in the early 1980s under the direction of Dr. Gerald Muller, whose passing we mourned earlier this year. While the assembly this year will not be invited to sing out loud, all of the traditional elements will be present, including lamentations, readings and motets with a quartet of singers, cantor, lector and lamenter. We hope you can join us, with Msgr. Jameson presiding, at 7:30pm in person or by livestream. Read more.
- 11:30am The Cathedral opens.
- 11:30am | Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
- 12:10pm | Mass (The Cathedral closes immediately after Mass.)
- 6:45pm The Cathedral reopens.
- 7:30pm | Liturgy of Tenebrae, Rev. Msgr. W. Ronald Jameson, Cathedral Rector (Schola quartet) (The Cathedral closes immediately after the service.)

On Holy Thursday Jesus gathered for a final Passover meal with his disciples. At the Last Supper, the Lord washed the feet of his apostles. The liturgy of Holy Thursday commemorates this gesture of charity and humility as a sign of Christian service to one another. Join us at 12:10pm with Msgr. Jameson presiding, or at 5:30pm with Cardinal Gregory presiding, or watch the 5:30pm Mass of the Lord's Supper livestream on the ADW YouTube channel.
The Paschal Triduum begins on the evening of Holy Thursday and extends to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery. The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.
