As you all know, I am a conservation supporter. With the world's exploding population, I am concerned for our natural resources in the future. I support several land conservation groups but I thought for a long time about what else I could do personally to conserve our trees and land. I came up with a small change in my materials that will help save many of our trees. I have gradually been using eco-friendly framing during the last two years. As paintings sell with my gold leaf and hardwood frames, I replace the frames with an eco-friendly brand. They look like wood frames and are quite nice, but they are composite and MDF frames that look like hardwoods. I have been buying the dark espresso colored or silver eco-friendly frames, and I think they are an excellent look for my paintings. I have switched to manufacturers of painting panels who are using eco-friendly materials for most of my small paintings. Raymar is one such company along with Source Tek. Saving and reusing wood products are a small way to save our beloved forests. Most of my patrons are happy that I am making this effort and they feel good about buying eco-friendly paintings.

Tip of the Day

Don't let faucets run. Never water your lawn at midday. Place a brick in old toilets. Take low flow short showers. Run the dishwasher only when it is full. Let grass grow longer. Plant native or drought-tolerant garden plants.

Today's Recipe

1 (4-6 lb) fresh beef brisket (untrimmed)
6 oz Dry Rub Seasoning (buy in grocery store)
 4 tbsp mustard
 1 lbs light brown sugar
1/2 large bottle Italian salad dressing

 4 tbsp Liquid Smoke

Lay brisket on large piece of aluminum foil.
Apply 1/4 of the BBQ  Seasoning to each side of the brisket and rub in.
Apply 2 tbsp (30 ml) mustard to one side and then apply another 1/4 of the Cajun Seasoning over the mustard and rub in.
Turn brisket over and repeat mustard and Cajun Seasoning to the other side.
Apply 1/2 of the brown sugar so that it completely covers one side with a layer that is about 1/4 inch thick.
Flip meat over and repeat on other side.
With fat side of the meat facing up, pour Italian salad dressing over the brisket and seal tightly in the aluminum foil.
Cook in oven at 275 degree F oven for 4 hours (or on outdoor grill).
Remove from oven. Pour off drippings (not needed on outdoor grill).
Pour Liquid Smoke around meat and return to oven for 1 hour (not needed on outdoor grill).
Remove from oven (or grill) and slice across grain of meat.
Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce on the side for those that want it.
