Sponsorship opportunities are available. The event is a fundraiser for the Construction Forum Education Foundation (CFEF), which has a dual mission of K-12 STEM education directed at careers in construction and action-focused construction industry research.
The awards recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions in the core areas which the Forum was founded to address: Diversity, Workforce Development, Regional Unity and Working Relationships.

In an environment where there are more questions than answers about how the St. Louis construction industry will meet inclusion goals and grow its workforce, the BUD workforce development and RUCC M/WBE mentoring programs stand out as beacons pointing the way.
On November 10, Construction Forum STL will present the networking/speaker program "Where the Rubber Meets the Road: BUD & RUCC Success Stories in STL Construction Inclusion." The program will be presented in a panel format.

| Koman Group Buys 3.3 Acres in Cortex |
From nextSTL: nextSTL has learned urban developer Koman Group has acquired 3.3 acres within the Cortex Innovation Community boundary. The area is the heart of the burgeoning urban development scene in the city. Though a purchase price has not been disclosed, sources tell nextSTL Koman Group outbid Cortex and perhaps other interested parties. In a significant vote of confidence in the area, Koman purchased the site on spec.

CFEF, County Library Promote Construction Careers
|
The Construction Forum Education Foundation (CFEF) has worked out an arrangement with the St. Louis County Library to give talks about careers in the construction industry at six library branches during October and November.

This effort is being led by the CFEF STEM Outreach Committee and is a win-win collaboration with the NAWIC St. Louis Chapter, the Construction Forum Young Leaders Group, multiple trade labor organizations and several construction businesses.

Painters Approve New Contract; Wage Hikes, Shift Pay
|
Members of the union representing 1,400 painters in the St. Louis region ratified a new contract last weekend. The contract calls for wage increases and a shift pay provision.
The agreement is a four-year contract. It calls for increases of $1.15 per hour in years one and three and $1.10 in years two and four for commercial work. The increases are 95 cents per hour in years one and three and 90 cents in years two and four for residential work.

Grove Apartment Project About to Get Underway
|
From St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Construction is about to begin on a five-story apartment building that will further solidify the Grove as more than a St. Louis neighborhood to eat and drink.
Amy Gill, president and chairman of Restoration St. Louis-the developer-said Monday construction will begin immediately after financing is completed this week. The developer applied last week for building permits.

| HOK Cyclists Raise $4,000 for Cancer Research |
HOK's annual Pedal for the Cause cycling team raised more than $4,000 for cancer awareness and research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital. The Sept. 24-25, 2016 ride was led by Tom Bahr, an avid cyclist and an architect on HOK's design team for the Campus Renewal Project for BJC Barnes-Jewish Hospital, BJC St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. HOK's eight-person team cycled more than 140 combined miles.

Mandel Group Acquires 213-Unit Merchandise Mart
|
From Urban Milwaukee: Milwaukee-based developer Mandel Group, Inc. announced today that it completed acquisition of the historic Merchandise Mart building, comprising 213 loft apartments, within the Washington Avenue Loft District in downtown Saint Louis, Missouri. The acquisition was completed by Merchandise Mart Equity LLC, an affiliate sponsored by Mandel Group.

| KAI D&B Acquires United Excel Design, Doubles MEP Engineering Staff |
KAI Design & Build has doubled its staff of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineers through its recent acquisition of the engineering group at United Excel Design, PC (UED).
Based in St. Louis, MO, UED provides a complete package of architectural and engineering services and is part of an integrated group of design-build companies including United Excel Construction (UEC) which performs construction and Mill Creek (MC) which specializes in the outfitting of furniture, fixtures and equipment, equipment planning, transition planning and move management. The integrated group of companies specializes in healthcare planning, design and procurement for the government through design-build projects.

From St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The aspirations of the development that began to rise on a patch of reclaimed farmland here eight years ago were cloaked in French pretense.
The developers might have christened the project "Florissant Park Place."
But they opted instead for "Fleurissant Parc Place" - an appellation that suggests haute couture, Camus and so much more.

IWR Completes Work on Trump International Hotel

St. Louis-based IWR North America, formerly IWR Building Systems, recently completed work on the high-profile Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C. IWR-NA was brought on as a specialty contractor to perform restoration work associated with the exterior enclosure upgrades as part of the renovation.
IWR-NA's scope of work included upgrades to entry facades and canopies with modern materials, new acoustical cladding systems at the mechanical screen walls and installation of high-end panel systems in the entrance portals.

Vote "Yes" on Safe Roads Amendment

When Illinois voters head to the polls this November, the first question on the ballot will ask them whether transportation taxes and fees should be spent solely on transportation.
The Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA) represents road contractors, but also building contractors who do not directly benefit from road construction but feel that the proposed amendment is extremely popular because it signals that Illinois will no longer sit by as our infrastructure crumbles, threatening the very basis of our economy.

From nextSTL: As SSM/Saint Louis University gear up for its $550M hospital project on Grand Boulevard, the fate of several well-known buildings remains in doubt. First in the minds of many is Desloge Tower. We reported in September that it's "highly likely" the 15-story French Gothic Revival building would remain and be converted to office space.

| Spec Warehouse is Going Up in NorthPark |
From St. Louis Post-Dispatch: CRG, the real estate development arm of Clayco, is building on spec a $30 million warehouse at the NorthPark business park in St. Louis County.
The company said Monday that NorthPark Distribution Center 1 will be completed in December. JLL is marketing the 537,753-square-foot building to potential tenants. American Realty Advisors is investing in the ownership with CRG, Clayco said.
