What in the World is the Pacific Masters Annual Meeting and Celebration?
by Teddy Palmer, Annual Meeting Committee Chair
Sounds like a secret society gathering, right? Well, let me spill the beans. I believed it was just a super-exclusive club meeting, mostly attended by Board Members, where they'd gather around a long table and discuss... secret fish recipes?
Invitations were sent out to Pacific members. I pictured supporting this aquatic superhero meeting, but the thought of arriving late, making a grand entrance only to trip over a chair, and picking myself up and attempting to find a seat, was not on my bucket list. However, 3 years later with the allure of a Keynote Speaker, swimming gurus, and the promise of food – I mean lunch – on a lazy Sunday, I thought, "Why not risk it for the biscuit?"
When it came to payment, I brought everything from gold doubloons to chicken nuggets, but guess what? It was FREE! For Pacific Swimming Masters members, that is. The speakers were terrific; the food was fit for a very hungry, picky, swimmer and the meeting? Surprisingly, interesting.
Over the years, it's become a hub for me to rub shoulders with Olympic swimmers, understand fish talk (a.k.a swimming techniques), and indulge in some grade-A banter with buddies both old and new.
If you're thinking, "What's the catch?", there isn't one! Well, you have to register. So, dive into this opportunity! It's all happening on Sunday, Nov 12th, at Indian Valley College in Novato, CA. For more intel, swim on over to the blurb in this Update, or do a two-handed touch, turn, and add your name to the list of attendees here.
Trust me, it's gonna be a splash! See you there!
