May 17, 2024

As Methodists, we are called to cultivate more disciples and deeper disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and world. You are invited to join us on the journey.

This week

Join Us for Worship on Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost remembers the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples, breathing life into the beginning of the Church. Jesus' promise that God would send the Holy Spirit was fulfilled. The color red symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit, which the disciples saw above each other’s heads as the Spirit descended. Wear red as you join us to celebrate Pentecost this Sunday!

Looking Ahead

New Sermon Series

You may be familiar with Daniel being saved from the lion's den, but his story is about so much more. The book of Daniel is all about God's people maintaining faithfulness to God, bearing witness, and making a difference, even in the face of persecution. Join us for our newest sermon series, Daniel: Prophet of Peril and Promise beginning next Sunday, May 26.

Feed the Hunger

Help us pack 20,000 meals for families in need! Make plans to join us on Sunday morning June 2 during our regular Sunday School hours at 9:30 or 10:40am for our annual food packing event. This is a free event open to all. Many hands make light work!

New Member Class

There will be a new member class at PUMC on Sunday, June 2 at 2pm for those interested in joining our church or learning more about church membership.

To register, please contact Emil Johnson or the church office.

The Faith We Sing

Much of what we know about God and the Church, we have learned from songs! From Jesus Loves Me as a child, to today's hits on Christian radio, we all have songs that speak to God's love and faithfulness and our responses of praise, cries for help, and thanksgiving. Submit your favorite hymn to the box on the round table by June 2nd, and it may be featured in our Summer sermon series, The Faith We Sing!

Courtyard Visit at Quail Haven

Join us as we have a Courtyard Chat on June 5th at 3pm with the residents of Quail Haven Inn. They will truly enjoy a group gathering with us for conversion and fun. Please contact Ann Morse at annmorse28@gmail.com if you can attend.

UMM Habitat Workday

The next UMM Habitat for Humanity project is on Friday June 7, 2024 from 8 am to 1 pm. Volunteers can use the Sandhills Habitat for Humanity website to sign up. Contact Bob Mustard for more details.

One Worship Service-June 16

Join us June 16 for ONE worship service at 9:30am. Being the Sunday of the U.S. Open Championship, we felt it best from a traffic safety perspective to limit our worship offerings for the day to just one. The Good News is we will be blessed to be led in the singing of familiar hymns by our Connections band and our Church Choir at the same time! Come and sing praises with us, hear a good word, fellowship with folks from other services, and make it home (or to #2) in plenty of time for the crowning of a champion!

US Open Pick'em Contest

It is time friends, for our next fun filled sporting pick 'em challenge. Pick up an entry form from the Narthex area of the church, follow the instructions on the entry form, submit your entry in the box provided, watch the U.S. Open and stay tuned to the E-News to see who wins! Only one entry per person, the top 3 finishers all win a prize. Questions? Contact Pastor Jabe.

Missionary Update: D'Jernes

Peter and Janet left their village on Long Island and traveled back to the town of Madang on the mainland. They are to serve as witnesses in a court case over the tragic death of Peter's nephew in a village conflict. Let's uphold them in prayer:

  • during their time of bereavement
  • for their safety while away from home
  • for wisdom in navigating the legal system
  • and for reconciliation between the fighting parties and restoration of broken relationships.

While in Madang town, Peter has been able to continue working with me on our revision of the book of Genesis. We have completed 40 chapters so far this year and have just 10 more to go.

God's Blessings,

Jeff D'Jernes
