February 16, 2024

As Methodists, we are called to cultivate more disciples and deeper disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and world. You are invited to join us on the journey.

"Love your enemies."

"I come not to bring peace, but division."

"Take up your cross and follow me."

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are at the heart of the gospel, and Lent is a season of preparation and repentance during which we anticipate Good Friday and Easter. In this season, we will explore five of the hard sayings of Jesus that remind us true discipleship is not easy- in fact, it's costly.

KAIROS Prison Ministry

PUMC has been involved with the prison ministry at Scotland near Laurinburg for many years. Our team, involving five members of our church, will enter the prison on March 7th to share the Good News of Jesus with a group of men selected by the chaplain. The program, based on Walk to Emmaus, will transform the lives of these men through a series of talks, music, and sharing. At the concluding service on March10th, each man will share the impact this experience has had on him, which is always inspiring.

On Sunday, February 18, there will be an opportunity for each member of our church to participate in this ministry in the Narthex through signing on a prayer chain, agreeing to provide desserts, and helping to finance individual meals during the weekend.

Interpretive Worship Choir

Interpretive Worship Choir (IWC) will be having its first meeting of the year this Sunday, February 18 from 7-8pm following Youth Group in the church sanctuary. All youth 6th grade and up are welcome! Bring your friends! We will plan on meeting for 1 hour this first rehearsal. We will be discussing schedules, so bring your calendar. Also, please bring a favorite poem, bible verse, song, or hymn that you might be interested in working up.

Reach out if you have any questions: Sheri at (910)691-7647 or Greer at (910)783-6405 or greermspt@aol.com. Hope to see you there!

Grief Support Group

If you have experienced the death of a loved one, you are invited to join us for a six week grief support group. The program will be focused on understanding and coping with grief. We will discuss the five stages of grief and how to begin your “grief-work”. Sessions begin on Tuesday, February 20. Two times will be offered, Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30pm and Wednesdays from 10am to 12pm. Learn more.

Staying Connected

The Big Game

A big thank you to all who participated in our first fun football contest! Unfortunately, no one guessed the correct score (who would have guessed 25-22?). Three folks in the church were oh so close: Emil Johnson, Judy Forster, and Hans Weber all had Chiefs 24-21. We will all try again next year! Stay tuned for more fun Church family contests...
