MESSAGE FROM THE PTSO PRESIDENTS - upcoming collaboration with Wellesley Youth Commission

The PTSO and the Wellesley Youth Commission are hosting a screening of  "If Only" a short film on the dangers of prescriptions drug abuse and addiction by teenagers.  The screening is open to all and we encourage older students and parents to attend.  It is our hope that this movie will provide students and parents with an opportunity to engage in conversations about substance abuse,  addiction, prevention, and recovery.   Screening will be on March 17th at 7pm in the Wellesley High School Auditorium.  Here is a link to the trailer.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT ...

Here is a link to the Guidance Department's March notes.  Please take a few minutes to review as it quite informative and helpful.

On February 28th, Director of Guidance Dana Plunkett hosted a parent coffee on "Leadership From Within", how to foster leadership skills in your adolescent and help them to become the best versions of themselves.  The speakers were Evren Gunduz & Tom Coburn, co-founders of Enjoy Life Education.  For those who were unable to attend, here is a link to the video of that session.

COURSE SELECTION FOR 2020-2021 ACADEMIC YEAR

Our thanks to Dr. Chisum, Dana Plunkett and all of the Department Heads for participating in our two course selection meetings.  Both meetings were incredibly informative.  We were so fortunate that Julie Spilka, a WHS faculty member, and one of her students, were able to videotape both sessions.  Here are links to the sessions and the relevant handouts --

We invite parents to review the Program of Studies and two videos on course selection discussions held in prior years that might be informative -- video one (covering Math, Computer Science and History) and video two (covering Science, Business and Technology).

Timing on Course Selection ...

Course selection began on February 24th with students having individual conversations with teachers for level recommendations.    Students will gain access to Powerschool for elective requests beginning March 4th.  Signed course selection sheets and level change forms are due to House offices by March 13th.

MEET THE CANDIDATES NIGHT ON MARCH 12th ...

The League of Women Voters of Wellesley's Meet the Candidates Night will be held on Thursday, March 12 from 6:30 - 9 p.m. in the Wellesley Middle School Auditorium (new venue!), 50 Kingsbury Street. The Meet & Greet reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed at 7:00 pm by a brief ceremony honoring retiring elected officials and the Candidates Forum.  The event is free and open to the public.   With five of Wellesley's town-wide offices contested, the event promotes informed choice as voters head to the polls for the Town Election on Tuesday, March 17. Wellesley Public Media will broadcast the event.

Are you curious about the candidates' positions on key issues?  The League invites you to submit your questions in advance to: voterservice.lwvw@gmail.com or in writing at the event.

Questions are screened for: universal interest, lack of bias, relevance to issues, and applicability to all candidates for each office.  In the interest of time, some questions may be consolidated.
The League also brings the views of candidates to voters through the LWV Election Guide which will be posted online at www.vote411.org.  Print copies will be available at the Meet the Candidates Night event and will be published as an insert in the March 12 edition of The Wellesley Townsman.
