SPREE Senior Grad Party Deadlines This Week

Senior SPREE, our all-night grad party, is coming up. Here's some important info and upcoming deadlines:
Purchase your ticket AND turn in your paperwork to the BHS office!
In order to attend, your senior MUST have purchased a ticket or requested a scholarship through their counselor
There are still some tickets available, but sales close on Friday, May 24. In addition to having a ticket or scholarship, your student MUST also have their required forms filled out and turned into the BHS Main Office no later than Wednesday, May 29 at the close of school.
Sign up for your SPREE bus at lunch on Wednesday, May 22 or Thursday, May 23.
Gather your friends and sign up for a bus together! Bus sign-ups will happen at lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. If you're unable to attend the bus sign-ups, you'll be added to a bus. You will only be allowed to sign up for a bus if your required forms are turned in. It's alright to bring these to the bus sign-up table as well.
SPREE buses will load at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 14 and will return to the BHS Parking lot at 5:30 a.m. on June 15. Your grad will be tired! Please make a plan to pick them up from the parking lot so they can return home safely for some rest.

BHS Photographers Place in Statewide Competition | |
Congratulations to the following BHS photographers who placed in the Washington State High School
Photography Competition.
Photography teacher Gina O'Neill noted there was a total of 5,172 entries, 61 schools that participated and a total of 1,634 student photographers.
Ballard's top winner was Sydney Blue who placed 5th in the Animal Category. (Her entry is featured here.)

Wiggins Serves as Legislative Page | |
Ballard student Hayden Wiggins served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives in Feb.12-16 during the Legislative session. He was sponsored by State Rep. Liz Berry (D - 36th District).
Pages assume a wide variety of responsibilities, from presenting the flags to distributing amendments on the House floor. They support the efficient operation of the Legislature while also receiving daily civics instruction, drafting their own bills, and participating in mock committee hearings.

Kong Academy Day Camps
| |
Kong Academy summer day camps run between June 24 to the end of August. Volunteers can enroll as few as one week of camp or as many as 8 weeks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Line management when transitioning between locations;
- Playing games with the campers and helping them when they get stuck;
- Escorting students to bathroom breaks.

MOHAI History Lab

MOHAI's History Lab is a summer intensive for students entering grades 10-12 interested in local history and storytelling. Participants will conduct their own research and produce a work of historical interpretation to be published on the Rainy Day History website. Participants will be paid a $150 stipend for their work.
History Lab will take place at MOHAI with occasional off-site field trips from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays between July 22–26 and July 29–Aug. 2. Participation is limited to six participants. Applications are due Friday, May 24. Learn more.

MOHAI Youth Advisors
| |
MOHAI Youth Advisors (MYA) is a 10-month program that takes place during the school year. Youth Advisors make the museum more welcoming for their peers by finding fun and creative ways to connect teens with MOHAI, and providing input on the development of museum programming and exhibits. Youth advisors work together to choose and build their own projects and activities. MYA also interact with MOHAI staff to learn more about the behind-the-scenes work of a museum and dive deeper into local history. This team of 12 high school students meet regularly from September-June and are offered a $100 monthly stipend.

You Grow Girl! is accepting applications for their upcoming cohort for their Peer Support Vocational Training Program for female-identifying youth, ages 17 and older
Youth with lived experiences participating in mental health and other service systems who are interested in supporting systems-involved middle-school aged youth through peer mentorship are encouraged to apply.
Program completion includes a stipend of $1,000 and attainment of industry recognized professional credentials and employment opportunities.

Congratulations to the Metro League AND District 2 3A Fastpitch Champion Beavers! Ballard Softball won first place in the District 3A Tournament Friday with an 11-8 win over Juanita. Both teams are heading to the State Tournament which runs May 23-25 at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
Special congratulations to Dale Griffith, Metro Coach of the Year! (His second honor after being named Coach of the Year in 2022!) Also, Colette Howren was named Metro League MVP.

Ballard Baseball ended its postseason run Saturday, falling just short of Edmonds-Woodway 5-4 at Bannerwood Park.
Congratulations to Chase Edwards (outfield), Truitt Madonna (catcher) and Adam Tripp (infield) on earning First Team All-Metro Honors. Dylan Wallblom was named Second Team All-Metro pitcher.
| Soccer Team Takes Three to Start State Tourney Run | |
Three State Tournament games, three wins! Soccer beat the Stadium Tigers 2-1 Tuesday, Central Kitsap 2-0 Friday, and Edmonds-Woodway 2-0 Saturday.
Their next game is against Lake Washington at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 24 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. Go Beavers!

Girls Team Takes 2nd at Metros!
Track & Field Excels at Metro & District Championships

After the Girls Team took 2nd and the Boys Team placed 9th last week at Metro Championships, Track set their sights on the 3A SeaKing District 2 Championships Meet, with the final events on Saturday at Renton Memorial Stadium.
Ballard qualified 30 athletes to the May 16 and 18 District Meet, many of whom competed in multiple events.
"From my count this is the most in school history to qualify for the District Meet!" Coach Neal Howard said. (Full Results)
