Free Eye Care and Free Eyeglasses for Kids
Give Kids Sight Day
is celebrating its 10th anniversary! It's time to mark your calendars and help spread the word
about free eye care and free eyeglasses on Saturday, October 5th!
Children 17 and under in and around the Philadelphia area are invited to this FREE annual event for FREE eye care and eyeglasses.
Sight Day is geared towards kids who did not have or did not pass an eye screening this year. Registration takes place from 8:30am to 1:00pm at Jefferson Alumni Hall, 1020 Locust Street and features eye screening, a health fair, free books, snacks and more! No health insurance? No problem!
All children are welcome. Walk-ins only, no appointment is needed!
We do suggest families arrive early.

PA GOVERNOR WOLF PROCLAIMS OCTOBER 2019
AS DISABILITY ACTION MONTH
Following a campaign by numerous organizations in PA and an online petition on
change.org
with over 700 signatures, Governor Wolf proclaims October 2019 as Disability Action Month.
Philadelphia, PA September 9, 2019 – Disability Equality in Education (DEE) is excited to announce that PA Governor Wolf proclaims October 2019 as Disability Action Month. He writes, “I encourage all citizens to celebrate the history, employment, pride, and education of our friends and neighbors with disabilities.”
Disability Equality in Education, Disability Pride Philadelphia, Inc., PA Inclusive Higher Education Consortium, Liberty Resources, Inc., other organizations, and many allies have contributed to the vision of eradicating disability stigma and fostering celebrations within our communities.
Disability Action Month focuses on the ways in which the disability community can strengthen their identity through history, employment, pride, and education. Alan Holdsworth, Director of DEE said, “Here is a chance for all educators to bring disability into the conversation and use our website that we have designed for precisely this purpose. We thank the Governor for giving school districts a lead on this and look forward to working with educators to make this not just an empty statement but real action to combat the stigma of disability.”
Vicki Landers, President of DPP Inc. says, “Thank you Governor Wolf and your office for seeing the importance of Disability Action Month!

Disability Equality in Education: (DEE) is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council to end the stigma of disability in Pennsylvania’s schools and colleges. DEE is affiliated with Disabled in Action (DIA). DIA is a civil rights organization committed to ending discrimination against people with disabilities. We embody the phrase “Nothing about us, without us” in the work we do with schools and colleges.
