Greetings and Resolutions
Happy New Year! It is a pleasure to bring you greetings on behalf of the PSA Board of Directors and Staff, and to introduce myself as our Association’s new Executive Director. In addition, I thank you for your membership, and for your contributions to the advancement of poultry science worldwide.
It is truly a pleasure to join an organization so dedicated to that mission. I’ve had the pleasure of working with PSA very closely in recent years in my previous role at Feedstuffs, and was always favorably impressed with the quality of people serving this Association from volunteer leaders, scientific program chairs and symposia presenters, and especially the professional staff. When the opportunity came to join the team, it was a no-brainer for me.
A little about myself, briefly: I’m a farm kid from Southern Ohio who grew up raising cows and broilers on a small farm that’s been in the family for more than century. I studied Agricultural Communications and journalism at Ohio State, and earned graduate degrees in Agricultural Economics and Business Administration at Purdue and Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. As you might guess from that CV, I’m passionate about the Land Grant Mission.
Prior to joining PSA I spent 22 years in agribusiness media, first as a farm radio broadcaster in Ohio and then the past 12 years with Feedstuffs, the highly-respected trade journal covering the animal feed and livestock sectors. Many of you rely on Feedstuffs for its coverage of the latest scientific research in nutrition and animal science, and that’s where I first became aware of PSA and its importance in our community.
My wife and I live in Columbus, Ohio, with our almost-10-year-old daughter Kyra and our three dogs. We spend many weekends at AKC-sanctioned dog shows across the eastern half of the country, and I’ll gladly talk your ear off about dog stuff if you’re interested.
I couldn’t be more excited about joining the PSA staff. As I shared with the Search Committee during the interview process, one of the things I knew going in was that this Association is blessed with a competent, dedicated, enthusiastic staff, and my first week on the job has confirmed that belief. Together we are working diligently on preparations for the Annual Meeting in July, wrapping up the 2022 Annual Report, and discussing how this year will be spent in advancing PSA’s Strategic Vision.
Come visit with us later this month in Atlanta at IPSF/IPPE – I look forward to meeting you or reconnecting!
