City Council passes 2024 tax bylaw
April 30, 2024

Today, City Council passed the 2024 tax bylaw after approving the spring operating budget adjustment last week. The bylaw finalizes the municipal tax rates needed to calculate 2024 property tax amounts. Tax notices will be mailed to property owners on May 24.

The municipal property tax increase for 2024 was finalized at 8.9 per cent. The tax increase will affect property owners differently, depending on how their property’s assessed value compares to the market.

A residential property will pay approximately $766 in municipal taxes in 2024 for every $100,000 of assessed home value, an increase of $66 from 2023. This means the average household, assessed at $428,500, will pay about $8.97 per day to fund 70 City programs and services.

While property assessment changes affect individual property tax bills, they do not affect the City’s total tax revenue. Property taxes in 2024 will generate more than $2 billion and this money will help to fund the programs and services Edmontonians use every day including emergency services, parks, trails, roads, bridges, transit, recreation centres, attractions and social supports.

Property taxes are due on June 30.
