Celebrate Waste Collector Appreciation Week

June 14, 2024

The City of Edmonton is proud to celebrate Waste Collector Appreciation Week from June 17 to 21. Whether it’s collecting residents’ waste, processing it at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, or working at Eco Stations or other drop-off locations, the City’s waste staff play an essential role in keeping Edmonton safe and clean.

Show your appreciation for your collector by leaving a note on your carts or bins, writing a message on your driveway, or coming up with something creative for your next collection day. Post a message on social media, tagging @CityOfEdmonton so we can share it with our staff.

And if you’re visiting an Eco Station or the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, say “thanks” to staff for the work they do.

You can also show your appreciation year round by properly sorting and setting out your waste. This includes:

  • Visiting edmonton.ca/CollectorSafety, and learn how to keep our collectors safe from waste hazards.
  • Ensuring hazardous waste is brought to Eco Stations. For example, batteries, and items with batteries like vape pens and power tools, can pose major safety risks to our collectors and processing staff if they are not brought to an Eco Station.
  • Downloading WasteWise, or visiting edmonton.ca/WasteWise, to make sure your waste is being properly sorted.
