Weekly Wizard News

PRS PTO Communication: We'd love your feedback and ideas!

We have tried to scale back the Weekly Wizard to make it more readable and to the point for you all, BUT it keeps creeping longer...and longer. :)

What are your thoughts? What is helpful content for you to have? What could be excluded?

Are there other ways that would be helpful to send information?

Current PTO communication plan:

-Weekly Wizard on Sundays

-Social media posts throughout the week with relevant deadlines

-Occasional newsflash emails with deadlines

-Room parent outreach

-Website, www.prspto.org which we try to keep updated with all of the information

We've received a good amount of feedback that we are sending too many emails overall. We GET it, for sure. It's a lot to receive and a lot to create.

How can we improve? Please respond to this email or reach out to us.

Thanks so much!

🍏Re-Stock the Staff Lounge🍏

The Teacher Appreciation Committee is restocking the staff lounge this month, and we need your help! Let’s shower PRS's amazing staff with snacks, drinks, lounge & classroom supplies to show them how much we appreciate and care about them. The most important items have been prioritized, and the items most in need are the individual dry-erase boards. Below is the Amazon link where you can order items. They will be sent directly to the committee, which will then organize and distribute them at the end of the month. Please place your order by October 28th. Thank you!! Updates and Recaps

Playground update -The PRS PTO recently purchased some new items for the playgrounds: giant tic-tac-toe boards, giant Connect 4 boards and a mini "physics bundle" of materials like PVC piping, pool noodles and golf balls for students to get creative with. Special thanks to Courtney Alexander for spearheading this effort!

WOW, what a week! The PRS PTO sponsored STEAM Week this week, led by parent volunteer Jill Slankas, who did an incredible job with her team pulling it all together! PRS STEAM Week was part of a statewide effort to boost the interest, awareness and ability for all learners to envision themselves in STE(A)M education and employment opportunities, and complement the formal instruction happening in the Commonwealth beyond this week.

Activities for 2022 STEAM Week at PRS included:

Dr. Colleen Dalton, Professor at Brown University, (and proud PRS parent) on Volcanoes to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders - this included some amazing video footage, and gettin the students excited about the scientific process (Notice, Ask, Guess, Experiment, Report & Share).

New England Reptile show presentation to Kindergarten and 1st grade - always a big hit with reptiles from all over the world.

Whale and Dolphin Conservation to Kindergarten and 1st grade - this included a 45 foot inflatable whale that the students could explore and real life artifacts.

Field trip to New England Base Camp (Milton, MA) for 5th grade which included several outdoor hands-on activities.

Kathryn Goulet (proud PRS parent) on 3D Animation to 5th grade.

Martin Touhey (proud uncle to two PRS students) on Beekeeping to 2nd grade.

Peg LeGendre, from the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Space presentation and hands on activities for 5th grade.

Discovery Museum (Acton, MA) presentation on sound waves to 4th grade.

Brian Taylor, Environmental Educator with the North and South Rivers Watershed Association, on herring migration to 3rd grade (this has to be rescheduled to another week).

Thank you all for making this a huge success! Thanks to parents and guardians of the PTO for donating to the annual campaign and making it all possible.
