National Conference to Remain Virtual in '21 |

Two weeks ago Civil Air Patrol members were asked to complete a survey regarding the 2021 National Conference. As a critical date approached, it was necessary to gauge members' comfort level with traveling cross-country and gathering in a large group to participate in the conference.
Because of lingering COVID-19 uncertainties and not knowing what the landscape will look like in late August, the majority of members said they are still not completely comfortable with an in-person National Conference, even though more such activities are happening locally in small groups as part of CAP's remobilization process.
As a result, the decision has been made to build on the tremendous success of last year's virtual National Conference by doing the same this year. The benefits of a virtual conference are many, but of course we’ll miss the in-person connection provided by such an event.
While this was a difficult decision, it is best to remain virtual for one more year — for the safety and peace of mind of CAP members and national staff alike. More conference details, including exact meeting dates, will be announced in a future edition of PROPS. Stay tuned.

Calif. Wing Flies Tsunami Warning Routes |

“This is a test of the Civil Air Patrol public address system" boomed from the sky along three northern California counties’ coastlines when the California Wing tested its airborne speakers in two flights conducted as part of a National Weather Service tsunami warning communications test.
The test was conducted to educate residents and visitors along the coast to one of the many ways they may receive warnings of an impending tsunami.

Operation Pulse Lift
Collects 3,000th Unit;
Next Goal Set at 3,333
CAP's Operation Pulse Lift blood collection mission recorded its 3,000th donated unit for the American Red Cross on April 3 — 12 days ahead of the one-year target date for that total.
Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Robert Cairns donated the milestone unit at the Arizona Wing’s Falcon Composite Squadron 305 building in Mesa (in photo).
The mission is on track to reach its new goal of 3,333 units by the one-year anniversary April 16. The total was chosen because it equates to 10,000 potential lives saved.

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate!
For nearly 80 years, #CivilAirPatrol members have volunteered their time and talents in service to America while leading interesting and fulfilling lives outside the organization.
As part of the observation, CAP's Marketing & Strategic Communications team has planned several social media posts throughout the month profiling a handful of CAP volunteers — like the first one featured here on our Facebook page.

New Resource Available to Help Mentor Cadets
Toward FAA Private Pilot Written Test Completion

Cadets who take their FAA private pilot written test and pass are more likely to garner financial support from CAP national-level programming. In fact, achieving this milestone is one of the “ideal candidate” attributes for Cadet Wings candidates.
Regions and wings interested in mentoring cadets to complete their private pilot written tests have a new resource, compliments of the Northeast Region and the Connecticut Wing. This link on GoCivilAirPatrol.com offers additional links to aids you can use to deliver a proctored private pilot online ground school.
The aids are used in conjunction with commercial off-the-shelf online private pilot written test preparation courseware. They include helpful tips for starting a cohort of students, setting up weekly instructional time, leveraging group discounts available to CAP members, recruiting CAP-USAF instructor pilots to assist with course delivery, and incentivizing cadets to take the test.
In addition, a Connecticut Wing instructor pilot, Capt. Bill Cass, created a slide deck for instructors. With over 800 slides, you're sure to find something to help augment your cadets’ learning as they work through online materials.

Space Career Exploration Panel On Tap Next Week |

The National Diversity Team will join with CAP-USAF and CAP Aerospace Education to present a virtual Space Careers panel, featuring several new members of the U.S. Space Force and an Air Force Reserve pilot active in the commercial space industry.
One of the panelists is Maj. Ajvish Varathara (right), the speechwriter for Gen. James H. Dickinson, Space Command commander. His duties also include coordinating with the Department of Defense, Joint Staff, Combatant Command staffs and service components to synchronize space priorities and planning efforts.

History Program Adds Banner, Poster, Pamphlets to Anniversary Resources
As part of the ongoing 80th Anniversary Working Group initiatives, the National History Program has updated and expanded a series of museum-quality display banners and posters originally created for CAP's 75th anniversary.
A seventh banner and poster are now available detailing the past five years of CAP operations, highlighting the National Cell Phone Forensics and Radar Analysis teams, the Cadet Wings initiative and CAP's COVID-19 response, Two tri-fold pamphlets providing concise histories of CAP and the cadet program and updated with new information and imagery are also available for download. |

Spring Cleaning for Air Force ABUs ... Don't Miss Out! |

Since mandatory wear for OCPs (Operational Camouflage Pattern) began April 1 for the U.S. Air Force, serviceable Airman Battle Uniforms, or ABUs, can be transferred to local CAP wings and squadrons.
Reach out to your local Airman’s Attic, Army & Air Force Exchange Services, OTS Shoppettes, Air Force Reserve, Air Force Sergeants Association, Air National Guard, public affairs offices of active duty, Reserve and Guard units, and area college/university ROTC detachments.
