Phelka Authorizes CAP Crisis Service Ribbon
Beginning in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in Civil Air Patrol’s most noteworthy national service since World War II. Regular operations continued while new missions were explored, millions of meals delivered to the needy, thousands of blood donations made, and distribution of masks and vaccines completed across America.

At a time when simply holding regular squadron meetings was challenging because of isolation restrictions, CAP members served the nation and ensured CAP’s continued operation. In recognition of this effort, National Commander/CEO Maj. Gen. Edward D. Phelka has approved the award of the CAP Crisis Service Ribbon to all active members who served at least one day after March 1, 2020, until a future point to be determined by CAP.

New members who join after this announcement will be awarded the CAP Crisis Service Ribbon on a monthly basis until the crisis has ended.
VA Partners with Chaplain Corps to Support Veterans' Families at National Cemeteries
The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced a new partnership with Civil Air Patrol and its Chaplain Corps expanding veterans' families’ access to qualified faith leaders during committal and memorial services at national cemeteries under VA’s National Cemetery Administration (NCA).

“In times of mourning and loss, our VA chaplains stand ready to support veterans’ loved ones,” said VA Chaplain Chad Maxey, chaplain program manager for family care and bereavement. “This partnership with Civil Air Patrol expands our ability to provide trained, qualified chaplains whether from VA or CAP to veterans’ families’ when they need it most.”
Wisconsin Wing's Hunt Appointed
as Great Lakes Region Commander

Col. Rose Hunt, former commander of the Wisconsin Wing, has been selected as the next Great Lakes Region commander.

Hunt accepted the appointment by Maj. Gen. Edward D. Phelka, CAP national commander and CEO, and will succeed Col. Matthew Creed, who has led the Great Lakes Region since January 2018. The change of command is expected to take place in January.

“Col. Hunt brings a wealth of experience from all of CAP’s missions, C-suite business leadership experience, and a proven talent for mentoring to the role of region commander, Phelka said. “I’m excited for the future of the Great Lakes Region, and I’m thrilled to have Col. Hunt join the CAP Senior Advisory Group.”

Members Encouraged to Wear Uniforms to Worship
Chief of Chaplains (Col.) Linda Pugsley invites all CAP members who participate in worship services of any faith tradition to wear their service dress or CAP corporate equivalent uniform to their services this coming weekend.

“For those of you who plan to attend religious services on the weekend of Dec. 3rd to 5th — whether at a mosque, synagogue, service, or church — I encourage you to join me in wearing your Air Force-style service dress or blue-shirt uniform, or their corporate equivalents, as we celebrate our 80th birthday," Pugsley said.

The activity began with the CAP Board of Governors’ 1972 declaration designating the first Sunday in December as “CAP Sunday.” The event soon expanded to include worship on other days of that weekend and was called “CAP Sabbath/Sunday.” Today, it is simply referred to as CAP Worship Weekend.”
