Cellphone Team Ends Year by Guiding Searchers to Missing Family, Snowmobiler
Civil Air Patrol’s National Cell Phone Forensics Team ended 2020 with a successful search and rescue mission three days before Christmas and another one two days after the holiday.

The team was credited by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center with the rescues of four people -- a 4-year-old girl and her grandparents stranded in the Willamette National Forest in Oregon as well as a missing snowmobiler in Kootenai County, Idaho.

CAP conducted almost 340 search and rescue missions during the calendar year.
Mission Accomplished: 1,500+ Units Collected
The Arizona Wing's COVID-19 blood donation mission reached its goal of 1,500 units on Dec. 30, thanks to the generosity of CAP members as well as the general public.

“Congratulations to all of you (individuals and units), and thank you for being part of what is now a nationwide CAP effort,” said Lt. Col. Bob Ditch, incident commander for the mission since it began in March.

The effort is set to continue in 2021, with five donation center events scheduled for this week and six total in January, all hosted by four Arizona Wing squadrons.
CAP's Lester Wolff Celebrates 102nd Birthday
Former U.S. Rep. and CAP Col. Lester Wolff celebrated his 102nd birthday Jan. 4. He is the oldest living former member of the House of Representatives.

Wolff began his CAP service early in World War II in the New York Wing. He commanded a squadron and flew coastal patrol missions.

Wolff was elected to Congress in 1964, serving eight terms. He and Rep. Jerry Pettis established the Congressional Squadron in 1968. His efforts led to CAP’s first Supply Bill and interest in counterdrug support to the government, and he also established the foundation for CAP’s federal funding and our government relations program, said John Swain, CAP's government relations director.

In December 2014, Wolff accepted the Congressional Gold Medal on CAP's behalf in a special ceremony with the leadership of the House and Senate at the U.S. Capitol.
N.H. Wing's Moran Flies 1,000th IP/CP Sortie
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Col. Bill Moran flew his 1,000th CAP Instructor Pilot/Check Pilot sortie on Nov. 22.

A big congratulations to one of our own, said Mike Moyer, CAP's senior program manager for standardization and evaluation, who announced the feat and described Moran as a consummate professional to Civil Air Patrol.

John Desmarias, CAP's director of operations, said reaching 1,000 IP/CP sorties is quite an accomplishment.

Moran, a former New Hampshire Wing commander, once flew bombers for the U.S Air Force.

CAP Foundation Seeking a Few Qualified Trustees

The Civil Air Patrol Foundation is embarking on a strategic growth plan, and its Board of Trustees is interested in identifying qualified strategic individuals to fill a few vacant trustee positions.

The new trustees will champion the building of an endowment for the purposes of supporting cadet scholarships and the advancement of aerospace education, among other CAP programs and missions. Foundation assets have grown 700% in the last 18 months.
