FAFSA WORKSHOPS - 1/18 via ZOOM & 1/27 in-person 

The revised FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opened DECEMBER 31. Step by Step instruction of completing the FAFSA will be provided at both presentations. Parents/guardians of seniors (Class of 2024) should plan to attend either Thursday, January 18 at 6:30P via ZOOM or Saturday, January 27 at 9A in person at PVPHS. Registration is required for either event you attend. 

  

Both student and parent need to create a StudentAid.Gov account to complete the FAFSA and if you want to follow along on your account during the presentation make sure to have your FSA ID username and password. Make sure to check the deadlines for all the schools where you applied as many have deadlines at the end of January or early February.

COLLEGE FAIR – WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24 at 6:30P in GYM 

Colleges and Universities from across the country and around the world will be in here at PVPHS to meet our students. Attendees have the opportunity to connect with schools, learn about the offerings of different colleges and make a personal connection with the admissions representative. To facilitate in connecting with colleges, all attendees (both students & parents) are encouraged to register at StriveScan https://app.strivescan.com/registration StriveScan is a service that allows attendees to electronically share contact information with the College Reps of their choosing.

PRACTICE ACT/SAT - SATURDAY, FEB 3 at 9A 

The College Career Center will offer a practice ACT or SAT for Sophomores and Juniors only, on Saturday, February 3rd at 9:00A. This practice test is not official in any way and is intended to provide a simulated test experience for students. The SAT is a DIGITAL practice test and students are required to bring their own computer or Chromebook on the test day. Students can register beginning Tuesday, January 16th in the CCC at Panther or lunch time (NOT DURING CLASS TIME) and a $20 donation is appreciated. PVP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TEEN ENTREPRENEUR INFORMATION SESSION – Tuesday, January 23 at 12:45P 

Formerly known as the PVP Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneurs Academy. Are you interested in learning about business, developing a concept, pitching for funding and more? Then discover more about the Teen Entrepreneurs, sponsored by the PVP Chamber of Commerce, at an information meeting Tuesday, January 23rd at lunch in the College Career Center. 

  

 

JUNIORS 

If you are you interested in the workings of our government or want more leadership experience, you might be interested in being a delegate to Boys/Girls State or Girls State. 

Boys/Girls State and Girls State are summer leadership and citizenship programs sponsored by the American Legion.  Applications are in the CCC and on the CCC page of the school website Completed applications are due on January 18th. Interviews will be scheduled for the end of January for Boys/Girls State and Feb. 2nd & 3rd for Girls State.

SENIORS NEEDING MIDYEAR TRANSCRIPTS

All seniors who need midyear transcripts sent to their colleges have to order the transcripts through: https://pvpusdca.scriborder.com/ 

 

You will then complete the TEAMS form using the link below that corresponds with your school counselor.  Midyear transcripts will be available on Friday, January 19th.  Please allow up to 48 hours for transcript orders to process. Transcripts are processed Monday – Friday.

Earn high school A-G approved credits, while learning valuable skills that prepare you for college and/or an entry-level career! Courses are after school and FREE for high school students! We also offer free transportation to and from SoCal ROC. VOLUNTEER TO SUPPORT ROBOTICS

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School is thrilled to host our first annual VEX Robotics Tournament on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This exciting competition unites 32 of the most brilliant robotics teams from all corners of Los Angeles, highlighting innovation and talent, as they compete to qualify for the state-level tournament.  

 

We are actively seeking volunteers of all ages to support various aspects of the event. We are also seeking judges with engineering experience to interview teams throughout the day and determine recipients of a variety of awards. Judging experience is not necessary. All judges will receive Information prior to the event and will receive training that morning.

Science Fair Judges Wanted 

 

The annual Palos Verdes Peninsula Science and Engineering Fair will take place on February 8th at Los Verdes Golf Club. We are in search of judges who work in a science related field or have a science educational background. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the groundbreaking work done by our Science Research students. 

 

Judging experience is not necessary. Judges will receive training that morning, as well as additional information prior to the event. The commitment for judges is 8:00am - 12:00pm on February 8th. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The new allcove Beach Cities mental health and wellness center is now open and welcomes everyone 12-25 years old in your district! The center is designed FOR and BY youth to reduce stigma, embrace mental wellness, and provide access to a variety of services. You can go check out allcove on the 4th floor at 514 N.
