Press Release: Save a Life this #GivingTuesdayNow
San Diego, CA – #GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity taking place on Tuesday. May 5th– in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. This #GivingTuesdayNow, FACE is showing our gratitude to our supporters and sharing the uplifting success stories of pets whose lives have been saved.

One recent FACE “success story” is Rocky. After being adopted from a local shelter as a puppy, Rocky has been an integral part of his loving family for over 13 years! Rocky’s family has had some ups and downs financially. After a cycling hit and run accident in 2016 ( NBC story link here), the family was left with a large medical bill and damaged credit. They had been working on getting their finances in order when the COVID-19 health crisis hit. With layoffs due to the pandemic, Rocky’s family was not prepared to pay for yet another unexpected medical bill; unfortunately, that is when Rocky had a health emergency.

After Rocky started dragging his legs behind him, his family rushed him to the veterinarian. The doctors at Veterinary Specialty Hospital diagnosed him with IVDD, a degenerative illness that damages a pet’s spinal cord. If not treated immediately with surgery, Rocky risked becoming permanently paralyzed. With no other options to pay for his care, Rocky’s family reached out to FACE for help. Thanks to our generous supporters, Rocky had the surgery and is now recovering at home with his family!

Pets like Roc ky need support now more than ever. With the unemployment rate rising and families at risk, let's come together to provide support to our fellow San Diegans during these trying times. All gifts received on #GivingTuesdayNow will be matched by a generous FACE donor up to $5,000! You can help San Diego's pets and families by donating to FACE today at www.face4pets.org .

About FACE Foundation
The Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) was created in 2006 to combat the problem of “economic euthanasia” – the tragedy that occurs when pet owners are forced to euthanize their beloved companion animals because they cannot afford emergency veterinary care. FACE strives to save lives, reduce economic euthanasia, and increase the wellness of San Diego’s pets. To date, FACE has saved the lives of over 2,686 local pets by providing financial grants in partnership with over 173 veterinary partners throughout San Diego County for pet owners in need.
