(Southbury, CT) – The Farm Stand and Pick Your Own Apples, at Hidden Gem Orchard are officially open for the season!
Hidden Gem Orchard is a boutique apple orchard located in Southbury, CT. They specialize in antique, uncommon, and modern-day apple varieties. 32 varieties of heirloom and other unique apples are grown at the orchard. This year, CT-grown seedless table grapes will be available for the first time. Additionally, you will find a wide range of winter squash, gourds, and pumpkins all available at the farm stand. New this year due to popular demand, fresh apple cider donuts are available for purchase, including both large and miniature sizes.
Hidden Gem Orchard offers a quiet, country apple picking experience. It’s a “no frills” orchard that focuses on growing premium, top-quality apples for all to enjoy. Their heirloom varieties date as far back as the 17th century. You’ll be taking a bite of history when picking apples our ancestors once treasured but are now long forgotten.
The farm stand is open on weekends, Friday through Sunday, from 9 AM to 5 PM. The orchard is open for apple picking on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM. Hay wagon rides to and from the orchard are offered at no additional charge with the purchase of various size bags for picking.
Hidden Gem Orchard is owned by James Wargo. He has a B.S. degree in horticulture from the University of CT and a M.S. in pomology (fruit science) from Cornell University. In 2017 he embarked on a lifelong dream to establish his own fruit farm, which has come to fruition at Hidden Gem Orchard. He has been interviewed several times on television about the Apple orchard, most recently a variety discussion with Ann Nyberg aired on WTNH and WCTX on Oct 2, 2023.
