Lima, June 2017. For the first time in its almost 20 years of operation, MicroRate is awarding the grade of 5 stars in a social rating. This grade, the maximum in the social scale, reflects the extraordinary level of social performance achieved by ENDA Tamweel, the leading microfinance institution in Tunisia.
Since its first Social Evaluation in 2008, ENDA Tamweel has demonstrated an exceptional level of formalization in its social performance management (SPM), and since then, MicroRate has witnessed the sophistication of its SPM in the expression of the components of its social mission in its strategy, objectives and processes.
The institution is known for its deep social commitment, particularly towards women, youth and the rural sector. In this regard, the co-founder and general manager, Essma Ben Hamida, argues that "the future is there, in the development of the land and agriculture." Young people are often excluded from the financial system and even the microfinance sector because of the risk represented by their lesser experience. For them, ENDA Tamweel has developed financial products adapted to young entrepreneurs, with non-financial services to support them in the development of activities.
This remarkable social commitment is also reflected in the impressive number of customers served and in the understanding of the social mission by the staff at all levels of the institution.
MicroRate congratulates the entire ENDA Tamweel team for this result!
