Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter
Announces Excellence in Construction Award Winners
November 2, 2023 – Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter has announced the winners of their 2023 Excellence in Construction Awards program at the annual awards banquet held November 2, 2023 at The View at Briarcliff in Kansas City, MO.
Winners were selected by a panel of judges who reviewed the project entries explaining safety practices, innovative solutions, and unique challenges among other judging criteria.
Six category winners in subcontracting and sixteen category winners in general contracting were selected.
In the subcontracting categories, the winner in the Electrical Institutional category was Electrical Associates for the Woodside Health Club Renovation project. The winner in the Mechanical Industrial – Under $2 Million category was Temp-Con, LLC with the Welcome House project. Temp-Con, LLC also won in the Mechanical Institutional – Over $2 Million category with their work on the Surgicenter of Johnson County project. There were three subcontractor finalists for Subcontractor Project of the Year. hth companies, inc. who won the Mechanical Industrial – Over $2 Million category for their work on the Shell Rock Soy Processing project. Torgeson Electric, the winner in the Electrical Institutional - Over $2 Million category for their project on the Kansas State University Volleyball & Olympic Training Facility. Thermaltech, Inc., who won in the Mechanical Institutional - Under $2 Million category for the Nature's Grace & Wellness project.
In the general contracting categories, Al J. Mueller Construction won the Commercial – $5 to $10 Million category for their work on the SERV project. The winner in the Commercial – Under $5 Million category was Haren Companies for their work on the R-G Federal Credit Union project. Nabholz won in the Healthcare category with their project on the Aurora Medical Center OR Expansion. The winner in the Industrial – Over $50 Million category was Brinkmann Constructors for their New Century Commerce Center project. Jonkman Construction won the Industrial – Under $20 Million category with their project on the Kansas Commerce Center. The winner in the Industrial – $20 to $50 Million was Lee Mechanical Contractors, with their Lehigh Hanson K4 Finish Mills project. Nabholz won the Institutional – Over $10 Million category for their Columbia Regional Airport New Terminal project. The winner of the Institutional - Under $10 Million was also Nabholz for their Shawnee Mission North High School Additions & Renovations project. The winner in the Public Works/Environmental category was Crossland Heavy Contractors with the Eudora Main Lift Station & Forcemain Improvements project. The winner of the Residential - Over $20 Million category was Neighbors Construction for the CORE | Modern Apartments on Berkley Riverfront project. Straub Construction won the Residential – Under $20 Million category with their project on The Rochester. The winner in the Specialty – Under $4 Million was Gunter Construction Company, with their Design-Build Playground Improvements project. MegaKC won the Specialty – Over $4 Million category for their Kansas City International Airport New Terminal project. There were three general contractor finalists for General Contractor Project of the Year. Nabholz, who won in the Commerical - Over $10 Million category for their Drury University C.H. "Chub" O'Reilly Enterprise Center project. Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., the winner of the Infrastructure: Heavy category for their Monticello Road project. MW Builders, who won in the Renovation category for the Woodside Health Club Renovation project.
The award of Top General Contractor Project went to MW Builders for their Woodside Health Club Renovation project. The Top Subcontractor Project was awarded to hth companies, inc. for their Shell Rock Soy Processing project.
The Arthur C. Waugh Keystone Award went to Steve Ruprecht of Brown & Ruprecht. There were two Freedom Fighter Awards presented to Corey Gibson of Lee Mechanical Contractors and Robert Hoffmann of Hoffmann Brothers.
In the safety categories, the Subcontractor Safety Award went to hth companies, inc. The General Contractor Safety Award went to Crossland Heavy Contractors. The winner of the Ted Anderson Superior Safety Award was Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc.
