Rozi's Wine House Incorporated has successfully operated wine and beverage stores in the Cleveland area for more than 70 years. Our family owned business was started by Maurice Rossen in 1939. The store is now operated by his son, Warren Rossen (2nd generation), and Warren's son, Gary (3rd generation). 2013 The Arsonist Red Blend
 

Tasting Notes

Dense, dark and ripe, The Arsonist 2013 Red Blend is a towering affirmation that we must all sometimes play with fire. Aromas of mocha, blueberry and cardamom intermingle with cigar box and hints of black pepper. A sweet oak character on the entry brings blackberry and cherry on the mid-palate, finishing with a pleasing peppery nip. Firm tannins on the entry complement a mouth-filling structure.

Winemaker Notes

Petit verdot (52%): The backbone of The Arsonist Red Blend, this thick-skinned grape yields concentrated, tannic wines with lots of color. Aged properly, petit verdot rounds out to develop rich, thick full-structured wines. The most important source for this varietal was our very own Dunnigan Hills Estate. Cabernet sauvignon (24%): Drawn from the coastal regions of California, this classic Bordeaux grape adds length and depth to The Arsonist Red Blend. Due to its thick skin, Cabernet Sauvignon develops deep blue hues of black fruit with big tannins that help allow for long aging. The principle source of this classic California varietal is Sonoma County's Chalk Hill appellation. Merlot (24%): The merlot grape sets itself apart from other Bordeaux varietals by being all about texture and smoothness rather than power and muscle. Plump, lush fruit provides an elegant complement to the blend's rugged petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon. We source this fruit from Lake County.

2012 Heartland Shiraz

Tasting Notes:
The dark colour preempts a wine of dense, layered black fruit.  The aromas of anise and cracked pepper are enveloped in classic blackberry.  The glass coating texture gives way to freshness on the finish resulting in a fine balance.  The structure imparted by oak and skin contact integrates well with the bright, but intense fruit.
Vinification:
The fruit was de-stemmed, crushed and pumped over twice a day for nine days to enhance colour and flavour. Fermentation with our Rhône isolate yeast was at 18°-24°C. Extended maceration resulted in savoury, supple tannins and an approachable palate. The wine matured for 14 months in oak prior to bottling.
2012 Vintage:
2012 is a gentle year that has yielded wines of great potential.  The growing period presented a minor frost event in September and a cool early flowering period.  Overall yields were 5% down on the already reduced 2011 vintage.  A dry lead up to harvest led to a frantic run between early February and late March,  getting all the fruit in at the right time.
