PON Welcomes the National Association of African American Parents & Youth as a New Member
For the past two years PON worked closely with The Knowledge Shop (TKS) on family math advocacy designed to help young children strengthen their math skills and feel enthusiastic and confident in their math abilities. TKS provides tutoring and out-of-school opportunities to support the academic success of Black students in South Los Angeles. In 2021 the families served by TKS formed NAAAPY to support Black families in advocating for their children.

PON and NAAAPY jointly applied for and were selected to receive a three-year grant from the Amity Foundation. We will kick off 2023 by co-hosting a Black Family Summit on January 31st to begin the celebration of Black History Month.

"PON was founded to create a space for parents of different races and ethnicities to come together and build a multicultural movement to achieve educational equity for all children. We are thrilled that NAAAPY is now a member and we will support their efforts so they can achieve their goals and realize their dreams for and with their children.

PON will send a delegation of members to the Black Family Summit 23 to listen and learn from our Black brothers and sisters. We know we will benefit from their wisdom and their struggles. During Hispanic Heritage Month we will host a Latinx Family Summit to provide a similar experience to Latinx and Black families." - Araceli Simeón, Parent Organization Network
Artist, academic and activist Lilla Watson once stated "If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. If you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together!" This quote clearly states the relationship between PON members and NAAAPY. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Black Family Summit 23!
